No fewer than 10 persons at the Lagos State Government House Marina have tested positive for COVID-19.

Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, disclosed on Thursday afternoon on his verified twitter handle.

He said the development forced Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his wife, Joke to undergo another test.

The tests, he however revealed, returned negative.

“I am glad to announce that #COVID19 Incident Commander Governor of Lagos State @jidesanwoolu and the First Lady of Lagos @jokesanwoolu have consistently tested negative to #COVID19 following three consecutive tests conducted on them recently,” the tweet read. Read more

Police in Lagos relocate checkpoints to ease movement of essential commodities, workers (Guardian)

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Hakeem Odumosu, on Wednesday in Lagos ordered the removal of some checkpoints in the state to ease the movement of essential commodities and workers.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Bala Elkana who disclosed this in a statement, said Odumosu gave the order when he visited various checkpoints in the state.

He said the visit, which was in the company of other senior police officers, was to monitor the compliance with the government’s curfew order. Read more

40 Lagos-bound travellers from Kano intercepted at Niger (Punch)

At least 40 travellers en route Lagos State from Kano State have been intercepted in Niger State, The PUNCH reports.

This was contained in a statement signed on Wednesday night by Mary Noel-Berje, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Abubakar Bello.

According to the statement, 19 other persons travelling from Lagos to Kano were also stopped by the Niger State COVID-19 Task Force. Read more

Interstate movement: FRSC turns back 437 vehicles from Lagos, Ogun boundaries (Guardian)

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), says it has turned back 437 vehicles from Ogun and Lagos States’ boundaries within two days while enforcing the Federal Government ban on interstate movements.

Mr Samuel Obayemi, FRSC Zonal Commanding Officer in charge of the two states, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Thursday.

Obayemi, an Assistant Corps Marshal, said that the operatives of the corps turned back 45 vehicles at Lagos boundaries and 190 vehicles at Ogun boundaries on Monday, the first day of the lockdown ease. Read more

NNPC reduces petrol depot price to N108 (Punch)

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation on Wednesday night announced a reduction in the ex-depot price of petrol from N113.28 per litre to N108 per litre.

The ex-depot price is the price at which the product is sold to marketers at the depots.

It said the price reduction took effect across all its products loading facilities as well as in its throughput operations. Read more

According to Cable.Ng, he was buried in Azare, his hometown, in Bauchi on Thursday evening.

Until his death, he held the title of “Mutawallen” of Katagum emirate in Bauchi.

He was the Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court.

Flooding as a result of recent heavy rains has killed more than 260 people across East Africa.

Kenya has been the hardest hit with the government recording 194 deaths.

In Rwanda, 55 people have died and floods have killed 16 in Somalia. In Uganda high water levels have trapped an estimated 200 patients inside a hospital.

After six excruciating weeks of being in a near lockdown, Lithuanian restaurateur Eimantas Lumpickas is relieved to finally have customers to serve again — but he’s never done it quite like this.

For the first time, all of his tables are outdoors.

Some are in a newly created seating area on the sidewalk and others will soon be in a park down the street, 40 metres away, that’s never seen table dining in the past.

“The restaurant is alive again,” said Lumpickas, as he relocated the tables and chairs outside of Drama Burger, an upscale gastro café in Vilnius, the capital of the Baltic nation of 2.7 million people. “The plan of course is brilliant,” he said.

“We are listening to the government’s guidance, we are keeping the distance between the tables, staff are wearing masks and gloves and using sanitizers.” Read more

A British mum died on vacation to California from a blot clot that was partly triggered by her birth control, according to a report.

Zoe Williams, 42, of South Wales collapsed just days after arriving in San Francisco with her husband, James, and 11-year-old son, Hayden, The Sun reported.

Moscow has three times more coronavirus cases than officially accounted-for – Mayor (RT)

Despite Russia ranking fifth in the world for confirmed Covid-19 cases, the truth might be even worse. Moscow’s Mayor Sergey Sobyanin believes the real tally in the city is about 300,000 – three times more than the official count.

In an interview with TV channel Russia 24, Sobyanin explained how the increased numbers are actually a positive.

“The fact that we have identified so many cases is not a minus, but a huge plus. Obviously, there are even more in the city.
