143 new COVID-19 cases take Nigeria’s tally to 54,008

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed a total number of 143 new cases of COVID-19 the highly infectious respiratory disease caused by the new coronavirus in the country.

The NCDC made the announcement Monday night on its verified Twitter handle.

It said the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria is now 54,008 with 41,638 patients discharged and 1,013 deaths recorded.

Africa has more than 1.2 million cases and more than 29,000 deaths.

As of August 29, the confirmed coronavirus death toll on the continent stood at 29,595. There are 1,245,973 confirmed infections and 976,398 recoveries, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

Worldwide, the number of those diagnosed with COVID-19 has exceeded 25 million. According to the tally kept by Johns Hopkins University, the global total of confirmed coronavirus cases is now more than 25.3 million. More than 848,084 people have died, while 16.6 million have recovered.
