Two charged with stealing lubricant worth N14m (Punch)

Two men, Vincent Ebuka and John Nwachukwu, were on Wednesday brought before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly stealing lubricant worth N14 million.

Ebuka, 24, and Nwachukwu, 25, whose addresses were not given, are being charged with stealing and receiving stolen property.

The Prosecutor, ASP Ikem Uko, told the court that the defendants committed the offences between November 2021 and May 2023 at Favour Plaza, Aspamda Trade Fair Complex, Lagos. Read more

Businessman bags life imprisonment for defiling 3 underage daughters (Punch)

An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Lagos State, on Tuesday, sentenced a 45-year-old businessman, Emeka Orisakwe, to three life sentences for defiling his three underage female children.

The victims’ ages were said to be eight, eight and six.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Justice Abiola Soladoye held that the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt the three-count charge bordering on sexual assault by penetration against the defendant. Read more

Abuja therapist arraigned in Lagos for N275m scam (Punch)

An Abuja-based sex therapist, Cecilia Agu, 40, was on Tuesday arraigned by the police before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State over an alleged N275m internet scam.

The defendant is facing a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, forgery, fraud, and obtaining by false pretence.

The police prosecutor, Samuel Eredia, told the court that the defendant and others at large, committed the offence on February 20, 2023, in the Lekki Phase 1 area of Lagos State. Read more

Rogue cops extort N153k from undergraduate, CP removes DPO (Punch)

Four policemen attached to the Ogudu Police Division in Lagos State have extorted N153,000 from an undergraduate of Cyprus University, Emmanuel Nnawuihe in the Ojota area of the state.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Nnawuihe was driving to a destination in the state when the policemen, who were on operational duty, flagged him down for a search around the under-bridge area of Ojota.

After obliging the policemen’s request, it was learnt that the policemen searched Nnawuihe’s vehicle and his mobile phone and found nothing incriminating.

Welder nabbed for helping fleeing suspect remove handcuffs (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command said it had arrested a welder, Aliu Tijani, who helped a suspected cultist to cut off his handcuffs after escaping from police custody.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed on Sunday that the suspected cultist, Wasiu Opeyemi, was earlier arrested in 2021, but escaped from police custody.

He said the suspect was rearrested by men of the command last week. Read more

NDLEA raids Lagos lab producing illicit drug (Punch)

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have uncovered a secret laboratory producing a deadly substance, Methamphetamine, in Ikeja, Lagos.

The development was made known by the spokesperson for the anti-narcotics agency, Femi Babafemi, in a statement on Sunday.

Babafemi said packaged sachets of the drug and various precursor chemicals used in the production were recovered. Read more

Security guard steals N17m goods from employer (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command, on Friday, arraigned a 27-year-old man, Abey Johnson, before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing electronics and other items valued at N17m.

The defendant was arraigned before Magistrate O. Y Adefope holding a brief for L.Y Balogun on two counts of stealing.

The police prosecutor, Haruna Magaji, holding a brief for Chekwube Okeh, told the court that the defendant committed the crime on April 16, 2023, around 7pm at No. 41/43, Chris Idowu Street, off Oke Bus Stop, Ejigbo, Lagos State. Read more

NAF probes female officer’s suspected suicide in Lagos (Punch)

The Nigerian Air Force has commenced a probe into the death of one of its female personnel identified as Master Warrant Officer George.

George, who was serving at the 651 Base Services Group, was said to have committed suicide in her room at Block T5 Flat 8 in Sam Ethnan Air Force Base Ikeja.

The incident was said to have occurred around 2pm on Saturday. Read more

Police arrest alleged fake customs officer over auction fraud (Punch)

The Police in Zone 2 command Onikan, Lagos, have arrested an alleged fake woman customs officer, Rakiya Musa, for allegedly swindling unsuspecting members of the public.

The Zonal Public Relations Officer (ZPRO), SP Hauwa Idris-Adamu, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday.

Idris-Adamu said that the Assistant Inspector General of Police of the Zone, comprising Lagos and Ogun, Mr. Mohammed Ali, received a petition on April 12 from two members of the public against Musa. Read more

Teenager in court for attempt to steal SUV (Punch)

An Ogudu Magistrates Court in Lagos on Friday granted a teenager, Lekan Wasiu, a bail of N500,000 after he was arraigned for attempted theft.

Wasiu, a 19-year-old, was dragged to court for attempting to steal a GAC SUV car. The accused, a mechanic who resides in the Bolar of Ajah area, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Court remands 3 for armed robbery (Punch)

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, on Friday, has remanded three men, Abdullahi Alimi, 44, Oladipupo Fagbe, 43 and Rasaq Alimi, 21, in Kirikiri Correctional Centre, for alleged armed robbery.

The Magistrate, Mrs A. Akinyemi, who did not take the pleas of the defendants, ordered that the case file should be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.

44-year-old teacher, cousins in court for defiling 10-year-old girl (Punch)

Five persons were on Wednesday arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Yaba, Lagos State for rape and conspiracy.

The defendants include the victim’s two cousins aged 11 and 13 as well as her 44-year-old teacher who were alleged to have defiled her at different times.

The victim’s mother and the mother of her two cousins were also arraigned for conspiracy.

The defendants were arraigned before the Magistrate, Patrick Nwaka, on three counts of conspiracy and rape. Read more

Lagos chief gets bail over alleged theft, damage (Nation)

The Lagos High Court at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) has granted N2million bail to  Chief Rilwan Oluwalambe, accused of damaging and stealing property worth N16 million.

Oluwalambe and a woman, Ajoke Olaleye, were on May 2, arraigned by the police on a three-count charge of conspiracy, malicious damage, and stealing before Justice Yetunde Adesanya.

Prosecution counsel, Williams Tijan, alleged that the defendants committed the offences on November 14, 2020, at Ijaiye Ojokoro, in Ifako/Ijaiye Local Government Area (LGA) of the state. Read more

Hoodlums attack ex-Lagos council chair (Nation)

Some hoodlums in Ifelodun Local Council Development Area on Friday attacked the former chairman of the council, Alhaji Fatai Ajidagba (aka AJIFAT).

Ajidagba was left with a dislocated arm and bruises on fingers and cheeks after the attack.

Panic in Lagos community as notorious cultists escape police custody (Nation)

Apprehension has gripped residents of Ajegunle community in Olodi Apapa LCDA following the escape from lawful custody of notorious cultists handed over to the police by the people.

It was gathered that the suspects including leader of Aiye cult in Ajegunle, Daisy Aiyenero, and his armourer, Taiwo Hassan, escaped from the custody of the Lagos Police Command’s Anti-Cultism base, Surulere, on May 31, few days after the community’s Crime Prevention Project (CPP), with the help of Police operatives from Layeni Division and Area B Command, arrested the suspects and handed them over to the unit.

The Nation gathered that while in the custody of the Anti-Cultism Unit, the leader of the gang allegedly contacted some members of the CPP and threatened to kill them and their families for giving the police information that led to the arrest of his gang and recovery of arms, ammunition. Read more
