Two persons have been confirmed dead while many others sustained severe injuries in a separate accident on Alfred Rewane Road by Marriage Registry intersection and around Isheri, Igando area of Lagos.

The Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA) Zonal Head at Isheri, Mr Afolalu Gbenga, who confirmed the accident in the area, disclosed that two people (a pedestrian and passenger) died instantly in the crash that involved a PSP truck and a Honda Civic car (black APP 79 HF).

The two dead victims were said to have been handed over to medical personnel present at the scene of the accident by LASTMA officials. Read more 

Aisha Buhari denies posting fake news on old naira notes, says accounts were hacked (Guardian)

The First Lady, Aisha Buhari, has denied posting a purported Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) statement on her Instagram page for the recirculation of old 500 and 1000 naira notes.

Aisha in a statement said the post was published on her social media handles after being hacked on Tuesday.

CBN thereafter refuted the claim in the purported statement that it has directed commercial banks to recirculate old 500 and 1000 naira notes. Read more 

Traders accept old notes at Lagos APC presidential rally (Nation)

Traders are accepting the old naira notes at the grand finale of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential rally in Lagos, in compliance with an order of the Supreme Court that restrained the Federal Government from banning the old naira notes.

Some of the traders, who spoke with The Nation, explained that was the only way to assuage the pains and difficulties of those who still have the old notes.

They also said they had no choice but to continue to accept the old naira notes as the new ones were not available for transactions. Read more

17 passengers escape death as boat capsizes in Lagos (Independent)

Seventeen passengers escaped death by a whisker on Monday, as a ferry conveying them en route Ebute Ero from Ikorodu in Lagos State capsized.

The General Manager, La­gos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, said this in a state­ment in Lagos.

Emmanuel said that they were rescued by first responders, including officers of the LASWA. Read more

Explosion rocks administrative block of Okehi LGA Office in Kogi (Channels) 

An explosion has rocked the administrative office of the Okehi local government area of Kogi state.

The incident was confirmed by the State police command on Tuesday in Lokoja.

The public relations officer, SP William Aya while briefing our Correspondent revealed that gunmen had stormed the Secretariat around 5 pm and planned the explosion that ripped through the administrative block of the Secretariat. Read more

Abuja pastor apologises for mounting pulpit with AK-47, suspends duties (Punch)

The presiding pastor of House on the Rock Abuja, Pastor Uche Aigbe, has tendered an unreserved apology to his congregation and the entire Nigerians for mounting the pulpit with an unloaded AK-47.

A remorseful Aigbe said he was disappointed in himself for not considering the consequence of bringing the firearm to illustrate a passage in the scripture before taking the decision.

Hayden Panettiere’s younger brother Jansen has died aged 28.

A representative for Hayden confirmed her brother’s death to ABC News, as they said that a cause of death is unknown and that an investigation is underway.

The publication said that Hayden asked for privacy in the wake of Jansen’s death.

Another US media outlet, TMZ, quoted a source as saying Jansen’s death was discovered after law enforcement was called to a residence in New York on Sunday evening around 5.30pm. Read more

Boy found in shipping container in Malaysia returns to Bangladesh (StraitsTimes)

The 16-year-old Bangladeshi boy, named Fahim, who was found in a shipping container in Port Klang last month, has been safely repatriated back to his home country.

Malaysia’s Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the boy, who had sailed from Chittagong in Bangladesh to Port Klang, was found in a weak condition on Jan 17 when the ship docked at port.

Datuk Seri Saifuddin said based on investigations, there are no elements of human trafficking in this case. He added that the container in which the boy was found was brought in by the MV Integra which sailed out of Bangladesh. Read more

Former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Alhaji Sani Lulu and his ex-First Vice President, Mr Amanze Uchegbulam, have asked the Abuja division of the Federal High Court to issue an order reinstating them in office.

Their suit also demanded the sum of N1.5 billion from the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development as damages for unlawful prosecution.

In the suit filed by their counsel, Mike Enahoro-Ebah, and pending before Justice James Omotosho, the plaintiffs listed the Sports Ministry and former minister of Sports, Ibrahim Isa Bio, as 1st and 2nd defendants. Read more

Body of Hatayspor sporting director found near where Christian Atsu was discovered following earthquake (IrishIndependent)

The body of Hatayspor’s Sporting Director Taner Savut was recovered on Tuesday more than two weeks after two devastating earthquakes struck in Turkey and Syria, in which more than 47,000 people have died.

Savut had been missing since February 6. His body was found close to where Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu, of the same club, was discovered dead last week.

“We feel the deep sorrow of losing our Sporting Director Taner Savut,” Turkish side Hatayspor said on Twitter on Tuesday. “We will not forget you teacher Taner. Rest in heaven. You are always in our hearts.” Read more

With Lance Stroll unable to take part in the F1 2023 Bahrain pre-season test, Aston Martin reserve Felipe Drugovich will step in initially.

Stroll’s pre-season preparations have come across an unwelcomed interruption after it was confirmed that he suffered “minor injuries” in a cycling accident while training in Spain, which will rule him out of the three-day Bahrain test in its entirety.
