2 in court over alleged stealing property worth N5.2m

The Police on Friday arraigned two men before a Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged stealing property valued at N5.22 million.

The defendants- Ayomide Tetede, 22; and Jamiu Muritala, 21; whose addresses are unknown, are in court on a two-count of felony and stealing.

They pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The prosecutor, Insp Ayodele Adeosun told the court that the defendants committed the offences on April 26, at about 3:35 p.m. at Oju-Owo Plaza, Magbon, Badagry area of Lagos.

Adeosun said the defendants allegedly broke and entered the shop of one Stella Alameen with intent to commit felony.

“The defendants stole Jeans trousers, men’s wears, shoes and bags valued at N5.22 million, property of one Alameen, the complainant.

“The offences committed are punishable under Sections 335 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates three years’ jail term for stealing.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Fadahunsi Adefioye, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties in like sum.

Adefioye adjourned the case until June 16, for mention. (NAN)
