2 remanded in correctional center for allegedly killing police corporal

An Abakaliki Magistrates’ Court, Ebonyi, on Wednesday, remanded two men, Anthony Odeh and Amadi Chibuike in a correctional center for allegedly killing a police corporal.

Odeh, 40 and Chibuike, 34, are facing a two-count charge of murder and conspiracy.

The Prosecutor, Insp Bassey Okon told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Feb. 10 at Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi.

Okon said that Odey conspired with Chibuike and others now at large, and shot to death, a serving police corporal, Emeka Kelvin whose force number is: F/No 518032.

The prosecutor said that the offences were punishable under section 319 (1) of the criminal Code cap.33, vol. 1 laws of Ebonyi State, Nigeria.

The plea of the defendants was not taken.

Counsel to the defendants, Mr C. O Okpere prayed the court to grant them bail.

The prosecutor opposed the bail application and urged the court to remand the defendants in a correctional centre.

Magistrate Ojemba Isu-Oko rejected the bail application and remanded the defendants in a correctional centre.

He said that the case file and all exhibits should be forwarded to the Department of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

He adjourned the matter until April 5. (NAN)
