2 women in court for allegedly obtaining N19.1m under false pretence

The police, on Thursday, arraigned two women before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly falsely obtaining N19.1 million.

The defendants, Yemisi Sanusi, 23, a travel consultant and Funke Oladimeji, a hair dresser, who both reside at 24, Fijabi St., Ikorodu, are being tried for conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretence.

The Prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on March 2, at Awolowo Way, Ikeja.

Akeem told the court that the second defendant introduced the complainant, Mrs Nofisat Adekunle, to the first defendant.

He said that the complainant paid N19. 1 million into the first defendant’s account to help her procure UK visas for 14 health care workers.

Akeem further stated that the first defendant did not secure the visas, stopped picking the complainant’s call and refused to refund her money.

The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravene Sections 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N1 million each, with two sureties each in like sum.

Osunsanmi adjourned the case till Aug. 24 for mention. (NAN)
