2019 Africa Movie Academy Awards opens call for film submissions

Organisers of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) has announced a call for film submissions. A statement by Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, founder of the Africa Film Academy, which curates the AMAA said it “invites African filmmakers or others with African narratives from across the world to submit their short, documentary or feature fiction films for the awards to be held June 7 -10, 2019 under the theme: ‘Engaging the Narrative’”.

The invitation to submit films to the AMAA, the statement said, is for filmmakers who believe that the world should see the beauty of African stories.

This is the 15th edition of the awards and, for the first time this year, the orgnisers stated, there will be a mini showcase of films that make it to the final shortlist, prior to the main awards ceremony.

“AMAA is the most prestigious and transparent reward for African Cinema; AMAA has been the launch pad for many young talents in the film industry in Africa and has been at the forefront of celebrating the best of African Cinema from Across the Globe.

“AMAA will be celebrating her 15th anniversary in 2019, and we will look back at the 15 Best Directors and Best Films of the last 15 years of AMAA as an ode to where we began. We also want to Engage the Narrative: ‘are we really telling our stories in the way they should be told?’”

This, the statement said, is also as a form of engaging the narratives in the task of promoting our heritage in the continued need to celebrate our journey as Africans.
