21-year-old American racer set to replace Nicholas Latifi at Williams

Logan Sargeant is looking increasingly likely to replace Nicholas Latifi at Williams next season, with Nyck de Vries now the favourite to replace Fernando Alonso at Alpine.

Alpine appear to be in control of what could be an enormous shake-up in the paddock, if they sign Frenchman Pierre Gasly from AlphaTauri.

Gasly had been the favourite to replace Fernando Alonso at the Enstone-based team, but Mercedes reserve driver De Vries is now the favourite to replace the 2020 Italian Grand Prix winner.

De Vries massively impressed on his shock debut at Monza, after being called up prior to FP3 to replace Alex Albon, who’d been diagnosed with appendicitis.

The Dutchman not only made it to Q2, but he went on to match the British team’s best result of the season, after finishing in ninth place.

De Vries made a mockery of Latifi, who is still yet to score a point this season.

Remarkably, Latifi is currently P21 in the Drivers’ Championship, with the Canadian’s fate looking all but certain.

It’s difficult to imagine a world where Latifi retains his Williams seat, especially having been beaten so comfortably by De Vries on his debut.

The 27-year-old is being considered by Alpine, AlphaTauri and Williams; however, AlphaTauri appears to be where the Dutchman will go, if Gasly does leave.(Formula1News)
