23-year-old girl arrested for stealing a Jeep, phones worth N1m (Vanguard)
A team of detectives, led by the Divisional Police Officer, Ikeja Police Station, CSP Gbenga Ogunsaki, has arrested one Miss Deborah Nwachukwu, 23, for stealing a Toyota jeep, cash and items worth N1 million.
DSP Bala Elkana, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), said this in a statement released to newsmen on Sunday.
According to Elkana, the suspect is an indigene of Abia and resided at No. 19 Irewale Street, Ipade Area, Lagos.
He further explained that Nwachukwu stole the Toyota Jeep, two Samsung S10, wrist watch, designer perfume and some cash from one Mr Patrick at MKO Street, off Toyin Street, Ikeja. Read more

Uncle ‘kills’ one-year-old baby in Lagos (Nation)
The Police in Lagos state at the weekend arrested a man for alleged murder of his one-year-old nice Nana Isiaka.
The suspect, Isiaka Ayobami, a resident of 2, Ayo Ijaiye Street, Isheri, was alleged to have thrown the toddler on the ground in a feat of anger, smashing her head.
It was gathered that the incident occurred at 7, Ayo Ijaiye Street, while the suspect and the child’s mother were having a scuffle. Read more
Budget 2020: Senate tinkers with timetable, shifts deadline (Guardian)
Despite its avowed commitment to giving accelerated consideration to processing of the 2020 budget proposal, the Senate has run into hitches with its schedule for the exercise.
Consequently, it has reviewed its budget consideration timetable to allow most committees yet to conclude work, and process their reports, to do so within seven days.
It would be recalled that the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, had warned that any minister or head of any government agency that failed to defend their budgets by the end of October would not be given another opportunity by the National Assembly to do so. Read more
Mother of four dies while procuring abortion from quack doctor (Nation)
A mother of four, Mrs Kehinde Olakitan, has allegedly died at the Mojisola Maternity clinic located in the rustic Onipanu area of Ogun State while trying to procure an abortion from a quack doctor.
The husband discovered the corpse which was dropped in front of a building adjacent to his, shortly after he was called on phone by a nurse identified as Dupe Odebunmi that his wife was ill and admitted at the Mojisola Maternity Clinic.
The husband, it was learnt told the Police that after hurrying to the clinic, he found nobody there but was shocked to find the remains of his wife dumped close their home. Read more
NIS mulls introduction of various visa categories (Guardian)
The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) says it will soon introduce various categories of visas for the country as part of its visa reform.
The Comptroller General of Immigration (CGI) Mohammad Babandede disclosed this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin.
Babandede said that the visa categories being considered were the visa for tourists, visa for retirees outside the country who wish to retire in Nigeria and visa for incentive/investors. Read more
Artwork on Christ sells for $26m (Punch)
A rare masterpiece by Italian early Renaissance master Cimabue that was discovered in a French kitchen was sold on Sunday for 24 million euros ($26.6m), about five times the initial estimate.
The Acteon auction house did not identify the winning bidder for the painting, “Christ Mocked”, at the sale in Senlis, outside Paris.
The selling price, which included fees, smashed the initial estimate of between four million and six million euros. Read more
Tinubu’s bullion vans: EFCC manhandles journalists as activists submit petition (Punch)
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Friday manhandled journalists at its head office in Abuja while a group of activists, including the convener of Concerned Nigerians, Deji Adeyanju, was submitting a petition addressed to the Chairman of the commission, Ibrahim Magu.
The activists had gone to submit a petition calling for the investigation of the source of money conveyed in bullion vans to the home of Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu on the eve of the 2019 presidential election.
Other activists who signed the petition were Ariyo-Dare Atoye of the Coalition in Defence of Nigerian Democracy and Constitution and Adebayo Raphael of the Free Nigeria Movement. Read more

The fugitive leader of the Islamic State (IS) group killed himself during a US military operation in north-west Syria, President Donald Trump has said.
Speaking from the White House, Mr Trump said Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi detonated his suicide vest after fleeing into a tunnel, chased by US military dogs.
Baghdadi came to prominence in 2014, when he announced the creation of a “caliphate” in areas of Iraq and Syria.
IS carried out multiple atrocities that resulted in thousands of deaths. Read more
Catholic church to approve ordination of married men (Vanguard)
Catholic bishops approved a proposal Saturday allowing some married men to be ordained as priests in the Amazon region.
The proposal, which must be approved by Pope Francis, would be a historic change to the church’s centuries-old tradition of unmarried priests.
It passed by a vote of 128-41 and applies only to some churches in the Amazon region that are experiencing a shortage of priests. Read more
Three held over UK truck deaths freed on police bail (Guardian)
Three suspects arrested in Britain over the deaths of 39 people found in a refrigerated truck have been released on bail, police said Sunday.
They are a man and woman, both 38, from Warrington in northwest England, and a 46-year-old Northern Irish man who had been held at London’s Stansted Airport.
They were arrested two days after the bodies of eight women and 31 men were discovered Wednesday in a truck in an industrial zone in Grays in Essex, southeast England. Read more

AFCON: Rohr slams CAF over qualifier schedule (Punch)
