Police arraign 3 for stealing vehicle’s brain box (Punch)

Three men, Femi Showunmi, Idowu Gafar and Idowu Iyanu, were on Tuesday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, on charges of stealing.

The defendants allegedly broke the side glass of a Lexus Jeep with number plate JJJ512HY, belonging to Comfort Ogundele to steal the vehicle’s brain box and glass control button valued at N3.5m.

The suspects, who were arraigned before Magistrate S.O Obasa, are facing three counts. Read more

4 in court for threatening Tiwa Savage (Punch)

Four persons were on Tuesday arraigned before a magistrates’ court sitting in Yaba, Lagos State, for allegedly threatening the life of a popular singer, Tiwa Savage, and an attempt to defraud her.

The defendants, Eniola Adeniyi, Donatus Osabanumonu, Idorenyi Okon and Michael Rodolphe, were arraigned by the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Annex, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos, before Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun on three counts of conspiracy, intent to defraud and threat to life.

The prosecutor, Idowu Oshubure, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on or before April 13, 2023. Read more

Domestic worker steals ex-employer’s cheque book, withdraws N2.5m (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned one Victor Williams before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a bank cheque belonging to his ex-employer, Alhaji Adekunle Moshood.

He was accused of also forging Moshood’s signature on the cheque and withdrawing over N2m from the account.

Williams was arraigned before Magistrate P. E. Nwaka on three counts of stealing and forgery on Thursday. Read more

Lagos man stabs neighbour to death over parking space (Punch)

Men of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 41-year-old man, Tolulope Olowu, for allegedly stabbing his 33-year-old neighbour simply identified as Pablo to death.

Olowu and Pablo, both residents of First Unity Estate, the Badore area of Ajah, Lagos State reportedly had an altercation in a parking space on their street.

The misunderstanding, despite efforts by co-residents to settle it, degenerated into a fisticuff during which Olowu reportedly stabbed Pablo to death. Read more

Man attacks police inspector with machete (Punch)

A 39-year-old man, Chukwuebuka Ekwueme, was on Thursday remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court sitting in the Ogba area of Lagos State, for allegedly attempting to kill a police inspector, Oche Joseph, by causing grievous bodily harm on him.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Ekwueme allegedly inflicted fatal injuries on Joseph by using a machete to hit him on his head and right hand in the Oshodi area of Lagos State.

Magistrate Patricia Ojeh made the order after the defendant, who is facing one charge of attempted murder, preferred against him by the police was arraigned. Read more

Police probe alleged assault on Lagos woman (Punch)

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, has ordered an investigation into a case of alleged harassment and assault of a woman, Omolara James.

James had in a video that went viral on social media at the weekend, accused a male neighbour of alleged harassment and assault.

She alleged that when she did not yield to the neighbour’s sexual demand, he allegedly ordered his boys to slap her. Read more

Cultists kill undergraduate, tiler in Lagos clashes (Punch)

Supremacy clashes involving members of the Aiye and the Eiye confraternities at Ijanikin, in the Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State, have led to the deaths of two persons including an undergraduate of the Lagos State University, Kamoru Lasisi, and a tiler, Lateef Atanda.

PUNCH Metro gathered that members of the cult groups had been engaging one another in a series of clashes for over two months, a situation that had been creating tension in the community.

During the clashes, our correspondent learnt that the cultists usually engaged themselves with weapons including guns, cutlasses, and machetes, among others, and had created strongholds that had been threatening the lives and property of residents and business owners plying their trades in the community. Rape: Lagos bishop spends week in prison, victim decries missing evidence (Punch)

A Lagos-based cleric accused of raping his members, Bishop Oluwafeyiropo Daniel, of I Reign Christian Ministry, Lekki, has yet to meet his bail conditions.

By Sunday (today), he would have spent one week in detention after he was remanded by Justice Ramon Oshodi of the Lagos State Special Offences Court, Ikeja.

The pastor was supposed to appear before the court on Monday, April 3, when the case came up for arraignment, but he was absent. Read more

2 suspects caught with slain woman’s phone (Punch)

Two men, Abdullahi Abubakar and Nurudeen Shotade, have been arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Yaba, Lagos State, for possessing the stolen phone of a woman, Opeyemi Oyelami, who was robbed and killed by armed robbers in the state.

The defendants were arraigned by the Lagos State Police Command on Thursday before Magistrate A. O. Salawu, on two counts bordering on stealing, and unlawful possession of stolen items.

PUNCH Metro gathered that on January 20, 2023, around 6am at No 52 Ikola Road, behind AIT, Alagbado, Lagos State, three men, armed with a shotgun, and a bike man, robbed Oyelami of her phone, a Tecno POP 5, and shot her at her shop.

Lagos CP removes DPO for misconduct (Nation)

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police (CP), Idowu Owohunwa, has ordered the immediate removal of the Divisional Officer in charge of Mushin as well as disciplinary actions against some of the personnel there over alleged professional misconduct.

Owohunwa gave the directive after he personally interviewed parties in an alleged assault case filed by a woman, Omolara, against a popular businessman, known as Bebex at Ladipo Market.

Omolara had taken to social media to cry out for justice over an alleged assault meted out to her by Bebex for refusing his love advances. Read more

42 cult suspects held in Lagos (Nation)

Lagos State Commissioner of Police (CP) Idowu Owohunwa, yesterday said the command arrested 42 suspected cultists across the state in two weeks.

He said his operatives recovered 10 firearms, 13 cartridges, knives and assorted charms from the suspects arrested at Ikorodu, Ijora and Ebute-Meta areas of the state.

Suspected killers of ASP held as police raid cultists in Lagos (Nation)

Several cultists, including suspected killers of an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) at a checkpoint in Ikorodu, a Lagos district have been arrested in major raids across the state.

The Nation reports that the ASP was murdered penultimate Friday and his teammates injured after suspected cultists opened fire on them at their checkpoint at Emuren, Ikorodu.

The suspects, it was learnt, were arrested from identified hotspots for cult related violence on Friday and were being profiled. Read more

Police find missing boy in Lagos (Nation)

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have found a seven-year-old missing boy, Goodluck Ifeanyi, in the Ago area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, made this known on his verified Twitter handle on Saturday.

He said that the boy was seen on Wednesday night roaming in the area. Read more
