3 arraigned for stealing N50m transformer (Punch)

Three men were arraigned on Tuesday before the Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing an electricity transformer worth N50 million.

The defendants, Kehinde Akinkugbe, Tope Salisu, and Isiaka Amusa, are facing three counts of conspiracy, stealing, and malicious damage, preferred against them by the police.

The prosecutor, ASP Aminu Isaac, told the court that the defendants committed the offences around 2:30 a.m. on August 22, 2024, at Ajeri Street, Ijede, in Ikorodu, Lagos. Read more

How gunmen killed Lagos monarch’s son — Police (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the killing of Demola, the first son of Ojomu of Ajiran land, Tijani Akinloye.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the killing which took place on Monday along Chevron Drive, Lekki area of Lagos State created an atmosphere of fear in the community following which the area became deserted.

A notice sent to our correspondent from the management of an estate in the community urged residents to avoid the Chevron, Agungi, and Ajiran areas.

Tension as armed men kill Lagos monarch’s son (Punch)

There is tension in the Ajiran community of Agungi Area, Lekki, Lagos State, as gunmen shot and butchered Demola, the first son of Ojomu of Ajiran land, Tijani Akinloye, in the community.

A source who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the weight of the matter disclosed that the assassination took place on Monday along Chevron Drive, close to Ebano Supermarket.

The PUNCH also gathered that the community is being deserted because of the tension created by the killing. Read more 

Car thief caught disassembling Toyota Yaris for parts in Lagos (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested one Monday Julius for stealing a Toyota Yaris car in the Oshodi area of the state.

This was disclosed in the statement posted on X.com on Monday.

According to the statement, the 39-year-old suspect was arrested by officers of the Ilupeju division of the command after investigating the incident of the stolen car. 

The suspect was caught disassembling the car to sell in parts. As a result, the vehicle has been recovered. Read more

NDLEA intercepts N2.2b codeine bottles at Lagos port (Punch)

The Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency has intercepted two containers with no fewer than 1,596 cartons of codeine-based syrup containing 319, 200 bottles of the opioid worth N2.234bn in street value at the Tin Can seaport in Lagos.

The Director, Media & Advocacy, NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, in a statement on Sunday, disclosed that the agency’s operatives at the Tin Can seaport in Lagos, on Friday, intercepted two containers that came from the Mundra port in India with no fewer than 1,596 cartons of codeine-based syrup containing 319, 200 bottles of the opioid worth N2.234bn in street value during a joint examination with other port stakeholders. 20 nabbed for open defecation in Lagos (Punch)

Officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps have arrested 20 individuals for defecation open on the median in the Berger area of the state.

The Commissioner for Environmental and Water Resources, Tokunboh Wahab, disclosed this on Sunday via his X.com handle.

According to him, the offenders were arrested during a patrol and monitoring exercise along the area on Saturday night and the wee hours of Sunday.

“Open defecation during patrol and monitoring of Ojodu-Berger yesterday night and early hours of today, operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps arrested 20 individuals for committing environmental infractions.” Read more

Mohbad: Court orders substituted service on Naira Marley, Sam Larry (Punch)

A Coroner’s Court in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State has ordered substituted service on key witnesses in the ongoing inquest into the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad

These include Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley; Samson Eletu aka Sam Larry; Mohbad’s sister-in-law, Karimot Ogunbayo; Boluwatife Adeyemo aka Darosha and Mohbad’s lawyer, Oluwasanmi Falade.

The nurse who was said to have treated the deceased during the period, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, and the driver who drove him to the hospital, Fidelis Esanbor, were also on the list. Read more 

Mohbad’s family seeks more witnesses on singer’s death (Punch)

The legal team representing the family of the late Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has expressed concern over what it described as sensitive information on the death of the deceased being released to the public.

One of the heads of the team, Taiwo Odumosu, in a statement obtained by PUNCH Metro on Sunday said such information should be made available to the police instead of the public.

He also appealed to the public to come forward with any information that could aid in the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death.

6 arrested for urinating on rail track in Lagos (Punch)

In a crackdown on public indecency, the Lagos State government has arrested six individuals for openly urinating on the rail track in front of the Nigerian Army Shopping Complex, Arena, Oshodi.

This was made known in a statement shared by the Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, on X.com on Saturday.

He wrote, “6 defaulters were earlier today arrested for open urination on a rail track in front of the Nigeria Army Shopping Complex, Arena, Oshodi.” Read more

Six #EndSARS protesters freed after 4 years in custody (Punch)

A Lagos State Magistrate Court in Ogba has discharged six men who were arrested during the 2020 #EndSARS protests and have spent almost four years in prison.

The defendants, identified as Daniel Joyinbo, Adigun Sodiq, Kehinde Shola, Salaudeen Kamilu, Sodiq Usseni, and Azeez Isiaka, were set free by Magistrate Bolanle Osunsanmi on Thursday, after being cautioned.

Youths foil kidnap attempt, suspects arrested in Lagos (Punch)

Some youths in Lagos State thwarted an attempted kidnap of a car dealer on Ebute Igbogbo Road in Ikorodu Local Government Area on Tuesday.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspects, including Taiwo Olayinka, Azeez Sodiq, and Saheed Moonstruck, had been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command.

A viral video on Wednesday showed three suspects, stripped and covered in blood, and sitting inside a car while being repeatedly questioned and beaten by the youths who caught them after the failed kidnap attempt. Read more 

Police arrest nurse over death of lady undergoing butt enlargement in Lagos (Leadership)

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested an unnamed nurse over the death of a 36-year-old woman, simply identified as Abiola, over a failed butt-lifting procedure allegedly carried out on the deceased by the nurse.

Lagos State’s Police spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest to newsmen in Lagos on Wednesday.

He remarked that the nurse was arrested after the Maroko Police Division received a report on Tuesday at about 11:40 am from the driver of the deceased, whose name was also not disclosed. Read more
