3 dead medical students in Calabar boat cruise identified (Nation)
The Police have released the details of the three medical students that died in a boat cruise in Calabar on Saturday.
Cross River Commissioner Gyogon Augustine Grimah confirmed the bodies were recovered on Monday.
They went missing when the boat in which they were cruising capsized on Saturday.
Thirteen medical students across different universities in Nigeria were involved in the boat accident. Read more
4 injured as gas explodes in Lagos community (DailyTrust)
Four people have been injured in a gas explosion in Lagos in the early hours of Monday.
The incident happened at Ijaiye beside the Apostolic Church, Agege, where it was discovered that a shop stored with gas cylinders caught fire.
According to the State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) preliminary report, it was discovered that one of the gas cylinders exploded as a result of gas leakage and in the process caught fire. Read more

Aviation unions task Tinubu to address agencies operating without valid CoS (Vanguard)
Five major aviation unions in the country have urged President Bola Tinubu to look into the issue of agencies that have been operating without valid Conditions of Service for many years.
They also appealed to the president to address the 40 per cent deductions from the financial accruals of the aviation agencies as prescribed by the Finance Act 2022.

Sallah: FG suspends construction works on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway (Punch)
The Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, on Monday, announced the suspension of further work on the ongoing reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, to reduce gridlock during the Sallah celebration.
The announcement was made in a statement released by the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos Engr. (Mrs) Olukorede Kesha.
According to the statement, construction works on the road will be put on hold between Tuesday, June 27, 2023, to Sunday, July 2, 2023, to allow those traveling during the Sallah break to have easy access. Read more
Trinity Guy: Mixed reactions as court remands skit maker, victim’s parents in prison (Tribune)
Following an order of a Magistrate Court sitting at Iyaganku, in Ibadan, which remanded a popular skit maker and prankster, Maruf Abdullahi, also known as Trinity Guy, in prison over allegations of sexualising a minor in his viral skit video, Nigerians have expressed dissent views over the action of the Court.
The Magistrate, Mrs. P.O. Adetuyibi, ordered that the skit maker, alongside the parents of the minor, Isiaka Ahmed, 40, and his wife, Rofiat, 29, be remanded at Agodi Correctional Facility in Ibadan pending July 11 when the case would come up for mention.
The defendants were remanded on a two-count charge of conspiracy and sexual abuse and exploitation. Read more

Amid the price appreciation and bullish sentiments, the total transactions performed by investors on the floor of the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) has so far risen to N1.04 trillion in the first five months of 2023, Daily Sun investigations can reveal.
According to data obtained from the Domestic and Foreign Portfolio Investment Report of Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) for the month of May 2023, the total amount of transactions on Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) grew to N322.92 billion in the month of May as against N191.21 billion in the previous trading month, thus representing a 68.88 per cent increase.
The month of January 2023 saw total transactions stand at N195.10 billion. The months of February, March, April and May saw transactions standing at N188.91 billion, N146.22 billion, N191.21 and N322.92 billion respectively. Read more

Released a week earlier, Elemental rose from second place to first and grew its revenue by 19% in its second frame. According to data from Kobis, the tracking service operated by the Korean Film Council, Elemental earned $3.86 million between Friday and Sunday for a 12-day cumulative of $9.47 million.
The Roundup: No Way Out, which had dominated the sector for the previous three weekends, slipped to second position. It earned $3.34 million over the weekend, a 34% week-on-week decline. Over 100 artists, including Tom Morello and Zack De La Rocha, have pledged to boycott venues that use face-scanning technology.
The boycott was organised by the digital rights advocacy group Fight for the Future, and calls for the ban of face-scanning technology at all live events. Artists that have signed the pledge include Boots Riley, Wheatus, Anti-Flag, Downtown Boys, and over 80 additional artists.
Smaller independent venues in the US such as the House of Yes in Brooklyn, the Lyric Hyperion in Los Angeles, and Black Cat in D.C., also pledged to not use facial recognition tech for their shows. Read more

Iconic Scottish football manager Craig Brown has sadly passed away at the age of 82 following a long battle with illness.
The former Scotland manager was confirmed to have died in hospital on Monday with tributes flooding in following the sad news. Brown got his career as a head coach underway at Clyde before moving to the Scottish set-up as under-21 boss.
He then succeeded Andy Roxburgh as manager of the senior side and made history as he led them to Euro ’96 before securing a place at the World Cup in France two years later. His side failed to get out of a group that included Brazil, Norway and Morocco – albeit that being Scotland’s last appearance at the tournament. Read more

Yin’s stature in the sports world back home in China surely rocketed overnight as she joined Shanshan Feng as the only Chinese players to win a major championship.
Shanghai’s Yin, a chronic leaderboard watcher, knew standing on the 18th tee at the KPMG Women’s PGA that she held a one-shot lead, and after she watched Yuka Saso birdie the final hole in front of her, Yin knew she needed a birdie of her own to win the title.
