The police in Lagos, on Tuesday arraigned three men before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged theft of a Volkswagen T4 Bus valued N1.7 million.
The defendants, Anthony Onwotemi, 51, Okechukwu Udeh, 39 and Oluwafemi Olorunnisola, 45, are being charged with conspiracy and stealing for which they pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp Ayodele Adeosun, told the court that the defendants committed the offences with others now at large at about 7.32p.m on April 24 at Mechanic Bus Stop, Iyana Isashi, Lagos.
Adeosun said the defendants stole a Volkswagen bus valued N1.7 million belonging to the complainant, Mr Adeyemi Oluwanishola.
He said that the defendants were caught while trying to sell the bus.
Adeosun said that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates three years jail term for stealing, while Section 411 prescribes two years for conspiracy.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N300,000 each, with two sureties in like sum.
Adekomaiya adjourned the case until June 3 for mention. (NAN)
