3 siblings found dead inside parked car in Lagos (Nation)
Three children of the same parents have been found dead inside a parked car they were playing in at Owode Elede area of Ikorodu, Lagos The Nation has learnt.
The kids identified as Oliseh, Daniel and Destiny Egba, three, six and eight years, respectively, were feared to have suffocated on Thursday evening.
It was gathered that they had entered a parked Hyundai Accent car with registration number BDG404CL to play at 16, Gbamire Street, Owode Elede, and could not come out of the vehicle.
The Nation gathered that the children whose mother, Lorita Azibato, lived at 2, Gbamire Street, had in the course of playing strayed to the compound where the vehicle was parked. Read more
Teenager remanded for defiling girl (DailyTrust)
A 15-year-old boy was on Thursday arraigned before an Ikeja magistrates’ court for defiling a 12-year-old girl.
The Magistrate, Mrs Ejiro Kubeinje, did not take the plea of the accused and ordered that he should be kept at the Federal Correctional Centre for Boys at Adigbe, Abeokuta, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution, and adjourned the case to June 28.
Earlier, the prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that the teenager committed the offence on May 15, on Akanni Showunmi Street, Mafoluku, Oshodi, Lagos.
DSP Ajayi said the teenager defiled the girl by inserting his manhood into her private part in contravention of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Read more
PDP to hold fresh primary elections in Lagos, Imo, Benue, Katsina states (Independent)
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to hold fresh primaries in Lagos, Imo, Benue, and Katsina.
In a statement issued on Saturday, by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said that the decision was reached after careful consideration of the electoral and appeal panels’ reports on the congresses held in those states.
He said on Sunday, June 5, 2022, the rerun primaries for Ahiazu State Constituency and Orsu State Constituency in Imo State will be held.
Ologunagba added that on Sunday, June 5, 2022, the elections for Musawa, Zango, and Dandume State Constituencies in Katsina State, Oru East/Orsu/Orlu Federal Constituency in Imo State, and Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency in Benue State will take place. Read more

Talented Nollywood star, Lateef Adedimeji has revealed that he has always prayed to appear as a cameo actor in any of Tunde Kelani’s movies but got himself a lead role in ‘Ayinla.’
According to the 36-year-old actor, working with Kelani has been a long-term desire.
Reminiscing on how he got the role and working with Kelani on the set of Ayinla, Adedimeji said it was a very tough and challenging experience.

Okene Explosion: 1 killed as Kogi CP vows to bring perpetrators to book (ThisDay)
The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Egbuka, has vowed to bring the perpetrators of the Okene explosion to book, adding that he has deployed the operatives of anti-bomb units to track the perpetrators of the latest explosion.
At least one person was said to have lost his life while nine others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Egbuka confirmed the incident through the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, William Ayah, while speaking in a telephone conversation with journalists.
The Commissioner of Police disclosed that one of the victims of the explosion died in an undisclosed hospital. Read more
APC lists Finance Minister, Zainab, 17 others to work with Gov Yahaya in budget committee for primaries (Vanguard)
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has released 20 names as chairmen and members of sub-committees of the special convention to oversee its primary election slated for Monday and Tuesday.
According to the document released on Saturday by the party’s Assistant Director Media and Publicity, Edegbe Odemwegie, those on the list are members of the budget committee.
The Chairman is the Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, while his co-chair is the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Hajia Zainab Ahmad and the deputy chairman is the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.
Members of the committee on the list are Layi Falabi, Senator Umar Abubakar, Senator Sahabi Alhaji Yau, Dr M B Shehu, Hon Usani Uguru Usani, Hon Phalal Bako Muhammad and HE Usman Mamman Muhammad. Read more
Kano inferno claims life of mother, son (DailyTrust)
Residents of Gandun Albasa, Bala Barodo Street, in Kano, were thrown into mourning after a night fire incident that killed a 35-year-old mother, alongside her three-year-old baby while they were asleep.
They were confirmed dead at the Murtala Muhammad Hospital by a doctor on duty.
The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the incident through its Public Relations Officer, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.

Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan has tested positive for Covid-19.
The Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 star made the announcement just hours before he was scheduled to take the stage at Saturday’s International Indian Film Academy Awards at the Etihad Arena.
“Everything was going so positively, but Covid could not resist,” he posted on social media in Hindi.

Russia is “suffering huge losses” and losing ground in the city of Sievierodonetsk, Ukrainian officials said Saturday.
Russia had “previously managed to capture most of the city,” Sergiy Haidai, the governor of the Luhansk region said in a televised address Saturday, The Guardian reported. “But now our military has pushed them back.”
Haidai, who oversees the territory where Sievierodonetsk is located, said he expected US-made weaponry to seal the deal.
“They are moving forward step-by-step. They are simply destroying everything with artillery, aircraft, mortars, tanks,” he said. “But as soon as we have enough Western long-range weapons, we will push their artillery away from our positions. Balogun to depart Rangers after contract expiration (Nation)
Rangers have announced that Nigerian defender Leon Balogun will leave the club after his contract expires.
The 33-year-old joined the Ibrox club in the summer of 2020 from Wigan and was part of the squad to win the Scottish Premiership trophy under Steven Gerrard.
Balogun went on to sign a one-year contract extension at Ibrox, and made 65 appearances, scoring two goals.

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc has suggested that every reign must come to an end eventually, so is not overly surprised to see Mercedes struggling to win races in 2022.

Mercedes, meanwhile, piled resources into trying to win the title with Sir Lewis Hamilton but, while they brought home the Constructors’ Championship, the Briton was denied the drivers’ crown in the final round of the season in Abu Dhabi by Max Verstappen.

A promising young boxer was left “buzzing” after his hero Tyson Fury invited him on a training run.
The world champion took Thomas Nicholson, from Bishop Auckland, County Durham, on the five-mile run after learning of his dedication to the sport. The 12-year-old, who has won five of his seven bouts and is currently preparing to compete in the prestigious Riviera Box Cup, and his brother Stephen, 14, met the star near his home in Morecambe.
The pair then accompanied Fury – who in April stopped fellow British heavyweight Dillian Whyte to retain his WBC world heavyweight belt – on a training run.
Thomas said: “It was amazing to go on a training run with Tyson who is my absolute boxing hero. He chatted to me all the way round and afterwards asked me about my career and gave me good, great advice on how I can continue to improve.
