4 die in Bayelsa road accident

Four persons have been killed in a tragic accident at Famgbe II, along the Yenagoa-Oporoma road, on Monday night in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

The accident, it was learned, involved a Toyota Sienna and a commercial tricycle popularly known as Keke Napep.

Though the cause of the accident could not be immediately ascertained, it was learned that visibility was poor due to the downpour in the area.

According to an eyewitness, the Sienna, a minivan was heading to the Angiama end of the Oporoma road in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area while the tricycle was returning to Yenagoa with three passengers when tragedy struck, few minutes past 7pm.

He said the driver of the tricycle and his passengers died on the spot while occupants of the Sienna van escaped unhurt.

“It took some time before residents responded to the emergency due to the rain and darkness.

“Vehicles plying the road are known for over speeding because of the smooth nature of the road,” he lamented.

Contacted, Spokesman of Bayelsa State Police Command, Musa Mohammed, said he was yet to be briefed on the development. (Vanguard)
