4 feared killed as suspected herdsmen attack Enugu community

At least four people have been said to have been killed on Sunday night and many wounded as suspected herdsmen invaded Nimbo community in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Residents who spoke to our correspondent said that herdsmen attacked mourners at Ugwuijoro Nimbo community killing four people instantly.

Although some residents said four corpses had been recovered, the community have formed search parties as so many people are currently missing.

One of the residents, Chijoke Okunna told our correspondent that seven people were seriously inflicted with machete cuts.

He gave the names of some of the victims as Okeh Simon Ugwu, Oruku Okeh Chukwuebuka, Julius Ogbonna Odiegwu and Gabriel Ugwor Ezea.

A police source who was among the Rapid Response Team dispatched to the community, told our correspondent that the entire community had been deserted.

Meanwhile, the Enugu State Police has confirmed the attack.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the incident, however, could not immediately provide details.

He said, “Please I am putting something together on the attack. You will get it soonest.”

It should be recalled that in April 2016, Fulani herdsmen attacked the Nimbo community and killed at least 14 people. (Punch)
