Day 3 at LIPFest promises to be lit and here’s why;

  1. Kwame Dawes will be teaching a master class, at 10am-12pm, on the writer’s view of ‘Angels and Muse’. Dawes has written over 30 literary texts of different genres, from poetry to fiction, essays and more. He is a professor of English at the University of Nebraska and also the chancellor of the Academy of American poets.
  2. A panel discussion will address the issues of truth and how to approach it as a writer. Panellists include poets, writers and scholars like; Tolu Ogunlesi, Kola Tubosun, Toni Kan and Wana Udobang. The session will be moderated by Lamide Akintobi and will kick-off at 11:30am-1pm.
  3. Another panel discussion will commence almost immediately after the aforementioned one. However, this will focus on idols and the African belief in them. What’s right? What’s wrong? Folu Storms will moderate the session, asking Timehin Adegbeye, Chika Jones and Wana Udobang about their opinions and convictions. ‘Burn Your Idols’ will begin at 1:05pm and end at 2:45pm.
  4. Six hours after the panel discussions have been concluded, guests should expect a turn of their minds and senses at Freedom Park tonight at ‘Poetry After Dark; Poems Apostle Must Not Hear’. The spoken word performances will feature most poets that have performed so far, and possibly a few surprises, since Lagosians like Poetry after Dark will begin at 9pm till late. Gate fee is N2,500.

The Lagos International Festival, sponsored by Nigeria Breweries, Heritage Bank, British Council and Goethe-Institut, is a five-day event that celebrates the essence and importance of poetry, bringing it to the Lagos shores. It takes place at the Freedom Park in Lagos.
