407 dead as COVID-19 cases in Nigeria rise to 15, 682

Nigeria’s death toll from the COVID-19 coronavirus has reached 407 just as the total confirmed cases of the infection has steadily climbed to 15682.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Saturday confirmed a total number of 501 new cases in the country via its Twitter handle. The figure, though high, is over 100 cases short of the number in the last couple of days.

According to NCDC’s tweet, Lagos State, which has been the epicentre of the virus since it was detected in the country on February 27, recorded the highest number of 195. The next figure is the Federal Capital Territory’s 50 with a steady decline in the remaining 22 states listed.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) also on Saturday put Africa’s COVID-19 infections at over 220,000 with Nigeria among the countries with the highest cases on the continent.
