The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed a total number of 601 new COVID-19 coronavirus cases in the country.
The NCSC made the announcement Saturday night via tweet.
It said the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria is now 51,905 with 38,767 patients discharged and 997 deaths recorded.
As of August 20, the confirmed coronavirus death toll on the African continent stood at 26,664.There are 1,148,849 confirmed infections and 871,590 recoveries, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
Worldwide, the number of those diagnosed with COVID-19 is very close to 23 million. The world hit a grim coronavirus milestone Saturday with 800,000 confirmed deaths and close to 23 million confirmed cases.
That’s according to a tally kept by Johns Hopkins University.
Officials believe the true numbers are far higher because of a lack of testing and reporting.
