NDLEA drags man to court over alleged peddling of 250g Marijuana

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), on Monday charged a 27-year-old man, Alfa Adamu before a Federal High Court Lagos, for alleged drug trafficking.
The defendant is facing a one-count charge of drug trafficking.
The prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, alleged that the defendant committed the offence on Sept. 17.
He said that the accused was arrested at GO Bus stop in the Ajah area of Lagos, for unlawful dealing in Cannabis Sativa (hemp), weighing 250 g.
According to the prosecutor, cannabis is classified by the agency as a banned narcotic similar to Cocaine, Heroin and other restricted hard drugs. Read more
Alleged forgery: Lebanese firm, four others for arraignment Nov 26 (Nation)
A Federal High Court in Lagos has adjourned till November 26, 2021, for the arraignment of a Lebanese firm, M. El-Kalil & Sons Properties Ltd and four others over alleged forgery.
Justice Daniel Osiagor fixed the date following the police’s failure to produce the defendants in court.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) dragged the firm, Francis I. Uzoaru, Ngozi Giwa-Amu, Obinna Chima and Frank Harden Ltd, to court on a one-count charge for the alleged offence, in the suit marked FHC/L/152C/21
According to the charge, Uzoaru, 58, of No 23/25 Martins Street, Balogun, Lagos is Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Frank Harden Ltd.
Giwa-Amu, 58, of No. 247 Moshood Abiola Way, Ijora, Lagos, is Company Secretary of M. El-Kalil & Sons Properties Ltd. Read more
Danish denies killing Nigerian wife, daughter (Nation)
A Danish, Peter Nielsen, accused of killing his Nigerian wife and daughter, on Tuesday told a Lagos High Court at Tafawa Balewa Square that he did not kill them.
Nielsen testified as the 10th defence witness.
He was led in evidence by his counsel, Mr Olasupo Shashore, who told the court that the evidence of the defendant was very crucial to his defence.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nielsen is accused of killing his Nigerian wife, Zainab, a singer, and their three-year-old daughter, on April 5, 2018. Read more
Court remands 61-year-old man over alleged N10.8m land scam (Guardian)
A Chief Magistrate Court, sitting in Ebute-Metta, Lagos has ordered the remand of a 61-year-old man, Olasupo Alimi over N10.8 million allegedly obtained from two prospective land buyers fraudulently.
Chief Magistrate Bola Folarin-Williams ordered his remand after he pleaded not guilty to the four counts charge of obtaining by false pretence and stealing levelled against him by the police.
Arraigning the defendant in a charge marked C/27/2021, the prosecutor, Mr. Morufu Animashaun, told the court that the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N7.3 million and N3.5 million from the duo of Sola Elegbede and Adeola Fatai, with false pretence of selling a plot of land to each of them.
Animashaun also told the court that the defendant, a resident of 6, Supo Alimi Streat Okun Ajah, Lagos, after fraudulently obtaining the said sums from the victims, refused to give them the land. Read more
Tortured Uber driver replies Lagos CP, demands rogue cops’ arrest, N500m (Punch)
Dedotun Clement, the Uber driver brutalised by security agents who fired tear gas canisters to disperse protesters during the #EndSARS memorial at the Lekki tollgate, Lagos State, has demanded the arrest and prosecution of the policemen who tortured him.
This was in response to a statement by the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, that the police could not take any action on his case because there was no official complaint before the command.
In a petition addressed to the commissioner on Monday, Clement, through his lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, said the attack on him was a violation of the Police Act 2020.
While urging Odumosu to take action to remedy the violation of his rights “as guaranteed by Section 34 and 35 of the Constitution,” the victim demanded that disciplinary measures should be taken against the policemen. Read more
National Theatre Lagos looted (Sun)
The Society for Transparency has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over looting of national assets in the National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos.
The petition, which was signed by the Corporate Director, Society for Transparency, Taiwo Osipitan, and addressed to the Chairman of the EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, entitled: ‘Looting of National Assets in Disguise of Privatisation,’ was received by the anti-graft agency on October 15, 2021.
In the petition, the Society for Transparency alleged that the current mass looting going on in the National Arts Theatre showed that either the Ministry of Information and Culture or the National Assembly were not paying adequate attention to the brazen stealing going on there or they are complicit in the looting.
The Society for Transparency also said that one of the managers of the National Theatre’s claim that the board authorised him to sell the government property was false. Read more
NDLEA intercepts 2,060kg heroin, others at Lagos airport, Ondo, Edo, Kano (Tribune)
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted over 2,060 kilograms of assorted drugs including heroin, methamphetamine, cannabis, tramadol, and Rohypnol in operations at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos as well as Ondo, Edo, Kano, Kaduna, Plateau, and some courier companies.
Femi Babafemi, spokesman of the NDLEA said, two consignments of heroin weighing 4.40kg and 550grams were intercepted on October 6 and 15 respectively at the cargo shed of the MMIA, Ikeja.
The first was seized at the SAHCO import shed of the airport when it was discovered inside bags of granulated sugar and flour from Johannesburg, South Africa via Addis Ababa to Lagos on an Ethiopian Airlines flight. Two suspects; Chukwuemeka Ugochukwu, a freight agent that cleared the consignment, and one Kabiru Aminu, a stock keeper that was to collect the cargo for onward distribution to recipients were arrested for further investigation.
In a follow-up operation on 9th October, one Adeoya Segun Joy who was to collect the luggage from Kabiru Aminu was arrested at Ajao estate while Enahoro Emmanuel Annointing who was also assigned to collect the consignment was nabbed in Abuleegba area of Lagos. Both were acting on instructions from their partners in South Africa. Read more
