Nigeria has recorded a further 684 fresh COVID-19 cases. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Friday announced the new figure, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 23,298.
The NCDC tweet listed 8,253 as discharged patients having recovered, while 554 deaths were recorded.
Lagos, Oyo, and Katsina had the highest number of cases at 259, 76 and 69, respectively. Delta, Rivers had 46; Ogun, 23; Edo, 22; Osun, 22; and Ebonyi, 21.
On the African continent the confirmed coronavirus death toll stands at 9,098.
There are 348,871 confirmed infections and 166,684 recoveries, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
More than 9.7 million people around the world have been diagnosed with COVID-19, while some 4.9 million have recovered, according to Johns Hopkins University. More than 493,000 people have died.
