71-year-old man dies during sex romp with prostitute in Ogun (Punch)
Tragedy struck in Sagamu when a 71-year-old man, identified as Ajibola Olufemi Adeniyi, reportedly died during a sex romp with a commercial sex worker inside a hotel in Ogun State.
Our correspondent gathered that the incident happened on Monday at 50/50 hotel Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government Area of the State.
The deceased, a resident of 22, Akilo Street, Bariga, Lagos State, had visited the brothel to ‘relax’ with one of the prostitutes therein, who was simply identified as Joy.
A hotelier in the area who pleaded anonymity confirmed the incident, saying, “In the course of the sexual intercourse, the man slumped and died immediately.” Read more

UI announces Adebowale as 13th VC (Nation)
Prof. Kayode Adebowale has emerged as the 13th Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan.
Adebowale, a Professor of Chemistry, is currently the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Admin) of the university.
His emergence followed the final screening by the Joint Senate-Council Selection Board of the university held yesterday at the Adeoye Lambo Senate Chamber.
The board on Wednesday reduced the number of candidates to eight after screening the 15 applicants for the position.
The eight successful candidates participated in the final interview yesterday, after which three were selected.Read more
102 Ex-Biafran Soldiers To Receive Gratuities (Leadership)
The Federal Government has said that 102 ex-Biafran soldiers granted presidential pardon, have been captured for payment of gratuity and other emolument by the Military Pensions Board (MPB).
The Minister of Defence, Major General Salihi Magashi (rtd), disclosed this at the ministerial briefing to flag-off the 2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Day at the Army War College in Abuja.
He noted that the war ended 51 years ago and many of those involved are no more alive, therefore, only 102 of the war veterans were captured for the payment.
The Minister, however, urged those with genuine complaints to come forward with their claims for consideration. Read more

Foremost professor of journalism, Prof Lai Oso, has noted that the future of journalism and democracy in Nigeria are currently under threat owing to the “authoritarian style of leadership” of President Muhammadu Buhari led-government.
Oso, a professor of Mass Communication at the Lagos State University (LASU) stated this in Abeokuta at a lecture organised by the Nigerian Institute of Town Planner (NITP) in honour of a veteran the former Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Alhaji Waheed Kadiri.
The lecture which us in its 7th edition had the theme: “The Future Of Journalism And Democracy in Nigeria.”

The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, October 19, 2021, as a public holiday to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration in commemoration of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

2023 Elections: WIMBIZ Seeks 50% Female Contestants (Leadership)
With the 2023 elections around the corner, Women In Business (WIMBIZ), has called for more involvement of the women in politics even as it called for a 50 per cent representation of the female gender among contestants in the upcoming elections.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of its 20th annual conference coming up between November 4 and 5, 2021, chairperson of the Executive Council of WIMBIZ, Ngover Ihyembe-Nwankwo, noted that with more than 50 per cent of the country’s population being made up of the female gender, they ought to have the same level of representation on the political scene.

Police parade 2 Cameroonian militants with explosives, 136 other suspects in Akwa Ibom (Tribune)
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command at the weekend said operatives of the force have swooped on no fewer than 136 suspects alleged to have committed sundry crimes across the state in the last couple of months.The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SUPOL Odiko Macdon, who paraded the suspects before Newsmen at the Police headquarters, Ikot Akpanabia, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Amiengheme Andrew, said the breakthrough was in line with a decision to make the state one of the safest in Nigeria.
Among those paraded were two suspected militants from neighbouring Cameroon; Adede De Black and Fombutu as well as a Nigerian accomplice, Bernard Mfam, from Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River state.
The Police spokesman said they were apprehended by the men of the AIG border patrol squad along Okob-Oron highway, during stop and search operations leading to the recovery of explosives including two bags of dynamites, charms and other dangerous weapons.Read more

As Nigeria joins rest of the world to commemorate the 2021 World Food Day, Friday, the Federal Government has expressed worry over threat of food wastage to achieve food security.
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Mohammed Abubakar, indicated this during a media briefing as part of activities to mark the 2021 World Food Day at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
According to Abubakar, the government has made effort to curb the widespread food wastage as a result of post harvest losses by engaging the private sector in food supply chain, and concessioning under-utilized Federal Government warehouses and storage facilities to private companies for optimal utilisation.
He added that it also will help reduce food waste occasioned by lack of proper agricultural logistics. Read more

Covid: US to lift travel ban for fully jabbed on 8 November (BBC)
The US has said that it will reopen its borders to fully vaccinated travellers from 33 countries on 8 November.
Under new rules announced by the White House, vaccinated people who have had a negative test in the 72 hours before travelling will be allowed to enter.
The move marks the end of the tough restrictions that have been imposed on travellers since early last year.
“This policy is guided by public health, stringent and consistent,” a White House spokesman said. Read more
British lawmaker David Amess stabbed multiple times in church (Reuters)
A British lawmaker in Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Conservative Party was stabbed several times on Friday in a church by a man who walked into a meeting with voters from his electoral district, a witness at the scene told Reuters.
David Amess, 69, who represents Southend West in Essex, eastern England, was stabbed at around midday at a meeting at the Belfairs Methodist Church.
Police said a man had been arrested after the stabbing and they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident. Read more

Emmanuel Kojo, the leading man in Disney’s Beauty And The Beast theatre production has been suspended following allegations of inappropriate language.
Emmanuel Kojo, 29, had been playing the role of the Beast in the musical, the first black actor to do so in the UK, until last Saturday as reported by The Daily Mail.
It is claimed he was removed from the touring production at Liverpool’s Empire Theatre following allegations of inappropriate language and suspended while a full investigation is carried out.

More pictures have surfaced from the set of Indiana Jones 5 in Sicily, and this time they show leading man Harrison Ford together with co-lead Phoebe Waller-Bridge for the first time.
The pair were busy shooting a scene together in San Vito Lo Capo, Sicily, on Wednesday.
While Harrison, 79, wore his classic brown leather jacket, beige shirt and grey trousers, 36-year-old Phoebe looked to be rocking a similar aesthetic with a white shirt and beige trousers, which were tucked into calf-length lace-up boots.

US Millionaire Robert Durst Sentenced To Life In Prison For Best Friend’s Murder (Guardian)
Robert Durst, the eldest son of a billionaire New York real estate family, will spend the rest of his life in prison for the murder of his best friend, journalist Susan Berman, whom he shot at close range at her home in Los Angeles more than 20 years ago.
The court sentenced Durst, 78, to life in prison without the possibility of parole for first-degree murder as reported by Forbes.
Durst was convicted with a special circumstance that Berman was killed because she was witness to a crime, which under California law carries a mandatory sentence of either life in prison or the death penalty.
Prosecutors said Durst killed Berman because he feared she would tell police that she gave a fake alibi to help Durst cover up the alleged murder of his wife Kathleen McCormack Durst, who mysteriously disappeared in 1982 and was declared dead in 2017. Read more

FIFA Evacuates Female Footballers From Afghanistan (Leadership)
FIFA has secured the evacuation of 100 refugees from Afghanistan, among them members of the national women’s football team.
According to Sky Sports News sources the group, which travelled from Afghanistan’s capital Kabul to Doha, Qatar on Thursday, includes at least 20 national women’s team footballers.
Football’s world governing body has been working closely with the Qatar government to secure a safe evacuation since August.
Afghanistan women’s team captain Shabnam Mobarez reportedly made a plea to FIFA to help her team-mates in the country after the Taliban’s takeover.
Individuals on the flight were deemed to be at the highest risk of harm if they had remained in Afghanistan, and FIFA is working closely on the process of evacuating further athletes in the future.
The hardline Taliban group regained control of the central Asian state in August following the withdrawal of western forces, raising concerns over the welfare of women in general in the country, and over the future of women’s sport.Read more
