90 new infections take Nigeria’s COVID-19 caseload to 56,478

Nigeria registered 90 new cases of coronavirus, totalling 56,478 in the past 24 hours, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), has said.

Making the announcement via its Twitter handle Tuesday night, the government agency said 44,430 previously reported cases are now recovered and discharged.

Nigeria’s death toll from the coronavirus is now 1,088.

Africa has recorded more than 1.3 million cases and over 32,000 deaths.

As of September 14, the confirmed coronavirus death toll on the continent stood at 32,795. There are 1,359,724 confirmed infections and 1,106,991 recoveries, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

Worldwide, the number of those diagnosed with COVID-19 has exceeded 29 million. According to Johns Hopkins University, some 29.4 million people around the world have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and 931,454 people have died, while nearly 20 million people have recovered from the disease.
