Man cuts off wife’s wrist over suspected infidelity (Channels)
The Enugu State Police Command, through its operatives attached to Okpuje Division, has arrested 33-year-old Sunday Echege of Ibagwa-Agu Farm Settlement in Ibagwa-Ani community, Nsukka LGA, Enugu State, for severing the left wrist of his wife, Chinonso Echege over alleged infidelity.
A statement by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe on Tuesday said Echege was arrested on Sunday.
The arrest was made possible with the assistance of law-abiding members of the community, and the machete used in committing the crime was recovered from the suspect, the statement said. Read more

The Presidency has accused former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, of plotting to unseat President Bola Tinubu.
El-Rufai, who was one of the speakers at the national conference on Strengthening Democracy in Nigeria held in Abuja on Monday, had lambasted the All Progressives Congress (APC) for failing to fulfill its promises to citizens. He hinged his attacks on the leaders of the party on his determination to force them to change.
Asked if he was abandoning the party he helped in forming and nurturing, the immediate past Kaduna governor replied: “I am not leaving the APC. I don’t have such plans..No, no, no, I only want them to change.” Read more
Police probing 179 suspects laundering of N11b, says spokesman (Nation)
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) yesterday said it is probing 179 suspects involved in laundering over N11 billion.
The NPF said its reinvigorated efforts towards tackling financial and money laundering crimes to lift Nigeria out of Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Grey List led to the arrest, among others.
The police recalled that in February 2023, Nigeria was placed on the FATF Grey List, designating the country as a high-risk jurisdiction for money laundering and terrorism financing. Read more
Tinubu returns to Abuja after Tanzania energy summit (Guardian)
President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday returned to Abuja after attending a two-day Africa Heads of State Energy Summit in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where he joined other African leaders to participate in the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit.
President Tinubu’s aeroplane, Zero-Zero-One, landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at about 7:40 pm.
The Summit, hosted by the government of Tanzania in collaboration with the African Union, the African Development Bank (AfDB), and the World Bank Group, adopted the Dar es Salaam Declaration. The Declaration focused on providing access to electricity for 300 million people in Africa by 2030. Read more

The invitation was made in a letter from the US president, which invited the Israeli prime minister to come to the White House on 4 February to “discuss how we can bring peace to Israel and its neighbors, and efforts to counter our shared adversaries”.

Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic has resigned, following nationwide protests over the deadly collapse of a railway station canopy.
He said he had acted “to avoid further complicating things” and so as to “not further raise tensions in society”.
Fifteen people died in November when a concrete canopy at a railway station collapsed in the city of Novi Sad. Tens of thousands of people have been regularly taking to the streets since then, demanding accountability for the collapse and protesting against corruption. Read more
