Housewife allegedly pours hot water on neighbour for greeting her husband (Punch)

A 36-year-old housewife, Josephine Omolu, on Wednesday appeared in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly pouring hot water on a neighbour for greeting her husband.

The Police Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Clifford Ogu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 26 at Agbotikuyo, Agege, Lagos.

He said that the defendant unlawfully scalded her neighbour, Mrs. Blessing Christopher with hot water. Read more

Court remands two men for raping family friend’s daughter (Nation)

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered that two men who allegedly raped a 13-year-old daughter of their family friend, be remanded in prison, pending legal advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Magistrate B.O. Osunsanmi, ordered that Rasheed Kasali and Isiaka Adisa, be remanded in Kirikiri Prisons.

Osunsanmi ordered that the case file should be sent to the DPP office. Read more

Spiritualists force teenager to swallow metal cross for cleansing (Punch)

Two spiritualists have been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly forcing a 16-year-old housemaid to swallow a cross made of metal for spiritual cleansing.

The defendants, Kehinde Salami, 25; and Yetunde Okonola, 42, whose residential address was given as No. 20 Adeyeri Street, Ifako Ijaiye, Lagos, are facing four counts of conspiracy, conduct likely to cause breach of peace, false pretences and attempted murder.

The police prosecutor, Sergeant Kenrich Nomayo, alleged that the defendants attempted to kill 16-year-old Angelina Moses by telling her to swallow a metal cross against her wish. Read more

Man impersonates Adeboye, Olukoya, T.B. Joshua to defraud Nigerians (Nation)

The police in Lagos on Wednesday arraigned a 27-year-old businessman, Yusuf Atanda, charged with impersonating Pastor Enoch Adeboye and two other church general overseers to defraud members of the public.

According to the police, Atanda created fake facebook accounts of Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor D.K. Olukoya of Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministry, and Pastor T.B. Joshua of the Synagogue Church of All Nations to dupe people.

The defendant, who resides at Okokomaiko, Lagos, is being tried for cybercrime before Magistrate M.O Tanimola in Ikeja. Read more

Court jails man for Internet scam after FBI petitioned EFCC (Punch)

Justice Mojisola Dada of the Lagos State Special Offences Court, on Wednesday, sentenced one Joseph Ekemezie to one-year imprisonment for involvement in fraudulent Internet activities.

Ekemezie was arrested following a petition written by the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

He was first arraigned by the anti-graft agency on September 4, 2018, on six counts bordering on possession of a document containing false representation, but he pleaded not guilty to the charges. Read more

Businessman arraigned for alleged dud cheques issuance (Nation)

The Special Fraud Unit (SFU) on Wednesday arraigned a businessman, Akinkunle Olunloyo, at the Lagos Federal High Court for allegedly issuing N11.2 million dud cheques.

The cheques, it said, bounced on presentation at the bank due to insufficient funds in Olunloyo’s account.

The defendant was arraigned on five counts alongside his company, Code Media Ltd. Read more

Man demands $2,000, vows to publish ex-girlfriend’s nude photos if denied (Punch)

A 30-year-old man was, on Monday, brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, over alleged threat to publish his ex-girlfriend’s nude photographs on social media for her refusal to give him $2,000.

The man, Gerald, was also accused of stealing his former girlfriend’s personal items and cash worth N1.7m.

The defendant, who resides in Lekki, Lagos, faces seven counts bordering on theft and threat to publish offensive pictures. Read more

Court remands Islamic cleric over alleged defilement of neighbour’s child (Nation)

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded an Islamic cleric, Morufu Salaudeen, who allegedly defiled his neighbour’s five-year-old daughter.

Magistrate B.O. Osunsanmi ordered that Salaudeen should be kept at the Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos, pending advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions.

Man in court for attempting to burn down landlord’s house (Punch)

A 38-year-old cleric, Abdusalam Murital, who allegedly attempted to set his landlord’s house on fire, on Wednesday appeared in a Yaba Magistrates’ court in Lagos.

The police charged Murital, who resides in Makoko area of Yaba with attempted arson.

Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Godwin Oriabure, said the defendant committed the offence at 4pm on March 27, at No. 18, Igbegandu str., Makoko area of Yaba, Lagos. Read more

Three lawyers accused of assaulting EFCC detective (Nation)

Three lawyers were on Monday arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting an Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operative in the line of duty.

The lawyers were said to have obstructed the operatives from arresting a former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikeja branch, Yinka Farounbi, on March 4.

They are Lateef Abdulsalam, 55, Evans Okwuede, 45, and Abiodun Kolawole, 48. Read more

Woman allegedly kills friend, attempts poisoning husband (Punch)

A 38-year-old mother of two, Esther Irawo, who is a resident of No. 6 Sule Street, Wera Estate, Ikorodu, Lagos State, has allegedly killed her friend, Femi Afolabi, 38, in order to conceal her adulterous life.

Irawo was said to have accused Femi, of informing her husband that he saw her with another man in a hotel and allegedly threatened to deal with him for trying to ruin her home.

The deceased’s father, Adeyemi Afolabi, a 72-year-old retired soldier, said he heard Femi shouting from his room that Irawo was trying to strangulate him, but added that nobody cared to inquire what was going on because of the level of their friendship. Read more

Court acquits man of defiling his eight-year-old stepdaughter (Nation)

Justice Sybil Nwaka of an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, on Monday acquitted a sales engineer, Happiness Essien, charged with defiling his 8-year-old daughter (name withheld).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 31-year-old Essien, who has been remanded in prison since May 25, 2016, was acquitted of a one-count charge of defilement mainly due to the absence of the alleged victim to testify during the trial.

Setting Essien free, Justice Nwaka said: “I find the defendant not guilty of the offence of defilement or sexual assault, I set him free, he is thereby discharged and acquitted…” Read more

Motorcyclist remanded in prison for allegedly beating man to death (Punch)

An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Monday remanded a motorcyclist, Ibrahim Awwal, in prison for allegedly beating a man to death.

Chief Magistrate O.O Olatunji remanded Awwal, 20, in Ikoyi Prisons and ordered that the case file should be sent to the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Inspector Oladele Adebayo, told the court that Awwal committed the offences on March 12 at 8.30pm at Tedi Village, Onireke in Ojo, near Lagos State. Read more
