Aboru residents groan as flood wreaks havoc (Nation)
Aboru residents in Alimosho Local Government of Lagos State yesterday counted loses caused by flood. This followed a heavy rain that lasted from Sunday night till early hours of Monday. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that because of the flood, residents could not sleep. NAN observed that they stood at the frontage of their houses and shops, lamenting the havoc caused by the rain. Some were seen carrying belongings affected by the rain outside. Read more
Again, FG, governors fail to agree on new minimum wage (Guardian)
A meeting yesterday between Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and state governors to agree on a new national wage again stalemated. While organised labour is insisting on N30,000, the Federal Government wants to pay N24,000 and the states still undecided. The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Zamfara chief executive, Abdul’Aizz Yari, said they were willing to pay but lacked the capacity. Read more

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has said that there is a renewed smear campaign against its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. It won’t work against the party’s chances in the 2019 elections, it said yesterday. The main opposition was responding making what it described as attempts by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to paint Atiku black in the eyes of the electorate ahead of the elections. Wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, has asked a Federal High Court sitting Lagos to unfreeze her accounts in which $8.4 million and N7.4 billion were domiciled. Shiites allegedly killed in clash with soldiers (Guardian)
Many members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shiites, were allegedly killed in Abuja yesterday during a confrontation with security operatives. The casualty figure remains unclear. A leader of the group, Abdullahi Musa, however claimed: “100 brothers and sisters were killed.” He said members managed to retrieve 16 bodies as soldiers took the corpses away. Read more

The Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, on Monday lashed out at the Catholic Archbishop of the Owerri Diocese, Most Reverend Anthony Obinna, saying the cleric along with ex-governor Achike Udenwa; his kinsman, Ezekiel Izuogu; and a former chairman of the state Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, had pathological hatred for both the All Progressives Congress and President Muhammadu Buhari. Sonar search for crashed Indonesia plane (BBC)
Drones and sonar technology have been deployed in Indonesia to search for a Lion Air passenger plane which crashed into the sea on Monday. Flight JT 610 went down after taking off from Jakarta with 189 passengers and crew on board. There has been no sign of survivors but debris and personal belongings have been collected from the water. Policeman arrested for allegedly shooting driver (Nation)
A police officer has been arrested for allegedly shooting a commercial bus driver over N50 bribe. The incident occurred at Isuaniocha in Awka North Council Area of Anambra State. The victim, Udoka Ezeme, was reportedly shot about 1:30pm at a police checkpoint in the area. The Nation learnt that the victim was accosted by policemen at the junction while conveying passengers from Mgbakwu to Unizik tempsite. Read more
Civil servant allegedly defrauds car buyer (Punch)
A 43-year-old civil servant, Emeka Obiora, has been arrested by the police for allegedly defrauding an intending car buyer, Friday Augustine. PUNCH Metro learnt that Obiora had promised to help Augustine buy a Toyota Corolla. Augustine, a driver, had reportedly deposited N500,000 into Obiora’s account for the purpose after which the suspect started avoiding him, including refusing to take his calls. Read more
