Action continues on Dstv, Gotv as Europe’s top leagues reach crucial stage

There will be a veritable feast of football across the Premier League this week as Dstv and Gotv air La Liga and Serie A including arguably the biggest club game of them all: Real Madrid v Barcelona, ‘El Clasico’.

The 240th competitive match between Real and Barca is set to be a key factor in the La Liga title race this season: a win for Los Blancos will bring them back into the battle for Spain’s top honour, while the Blaugrana will feel that a victory at the Santiago Bernabeu will remove one of their last major hurdles on the path to glory.

Both teams enjoyed victories in the previous round of La Liga: Real claimed a controversial 2-1 away win away to Leganes (thanks to two penalties), while Lionel Messi was in ominous form for Barca as they won 4-2 away to Sevilla. The Argentine master netted a hat-trick at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan to move further clear at the top of the Spanish top-flight scoring charts.

In Italy, two massive games dominate the schedule: the ‘Derby della Capitale’ between Lazio and Roma at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday night, and the top-of-the-table clash between Napoli and Juventus the following evening.

Juve will have the chance to extend their lead at the top of the table to 16 points (with just 12 rounds remaining) when they face the Neapolitans at Stadio San Paolo. Should the Bianconeri emerge victorious – as they did when the teams met in Turin earlier in the season – it will all but seal the Scudetto for Massimiliano Allegri and his charges.

In England, it’s a case of ‘double delight’ for DStv and GOtv viewers as there will be two full rounds of matches in the next six days. The midweek schedule features a crunch clash where Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri’s job is surely on the line for the visit of a Tottenham Hotspur side looking to bounce back from a disappointing loss away to Burnley.

The weekend features another massive game for Spurs, as they host Arsenal on Saturday for the North London derby. The Gunners have been in good form of late, but will need to go to a whole new level of they are to pick up three points at Wembley against Mauricio Pochettino’s charges.

Sunday sees Liverpool looking to complete a league ‘double’ over Merseyside rivals Everton, with the Toffees hoping to avenge their 1-0 loss from earlier in the season when Jurgen Klopp brings his team to Goodison Park for the final match of the round.
