The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday prayed a Federal High Court in Lagos to order that a red bag belonging to musician, Azeez Fashola, a.k.a Naira Marley, be removed from his possession in the dock.

The defendant had, in a case preferred against him by the EFCC, entered the witness box with a red bag hanging across his left shoulder down to his right waist.

The EFCC had preferred 11 counts against the musician, bordering on conspiracy, possession of counterfeit cards and fraud. Read more

ICPC declares Obono-Obla wanted (Guardian)

Nigeria’s anti-fraud office has declared former chairman of the Special Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property (SPIP) Okoi Obono-Obla wanted.

Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) said it took the action due to his Obono-Obla’s “repeated failure to appear before it to answer questions bordering on allegations of fraud and corruption”.

Obono is facing allegations of certificate forgery and other corruption-related charges.

“The Commission is in receipt of petitions accusing him of abuse of office, falsification of admission records, living above his income and collection of gratification from suspects under his investigation,” ICPC said in a statement on Tuesday. Read more

EFCC reportedly arrests Instagram celebrity, Mompha (Punch)

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission has reportedly arrested Instagram big boy, Ismaila Mustapha, popularly called Mompha.

It was reported that Mompha, who claims to be a  bureau de change operator, was arrested by the anti-graft agency on the orders of the International Police.

The news of Mompha, who flaunts his wealth on social has been trending on social media since Tuesday morning. Read more

FG seals 167 fuel stations in Oyo over invalid operating licence, others (DailyTruat)

The federal government of Nigeria, through the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), has sealed 167 fuel stations in Oyo State between January and October 2019 for different offences. The offences, according to the Oyo State Field Office of DPR, Mr. Yemi Olaonipekun, ranged from invalid operating licence, under-dispensing of petroleum products, poor facilities and lack of safety measures. The sealed stations include: Forte Oil at Ashi-Bodija Junction, Amazing fuel station at Air Force Junction, Akobo and Oduwoye fuel station at Yawiri at Akobo Oju-Irin. Read more

FRSC officers in police custody over alleged murder (Punch)

The Edo State police command on Tuesday arrested two Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC officers for the alleged murder of one Mr Odion Omafo Samuel, 36  along Agbor Road, Benin.

The two officers now in police cell were identified as Francis Igboh and Samson Alolade while efforts were on to apprehend two others Joseph Onolade and Sunday Ogi.

The deceased, Samuel, 36 had reportedly hired an Audi 80 car and was travelling in it with its driver when the embattled FRSC personnel flagged it down at Owuahe Hill, Agbor Road in Edo on Monday, October 14, 2019. Read more

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Ibadan chapter, on Tuesday, said no single academic staff was involved in the examination malpractices allegedly discovered at the institution’s distance learning centre (DLC). The ASUU Chairman, Prof Deji Omole, while reacting to some newspaper reports, said those arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) were non-academic staff in the technical unit of the DLC. EFCC charges two British men for P&ID fraud (Guardian)

Nigeria’s anti-graft agency has arraigned two British nationals, James Richard Nolan and Adam Quinn, for alleged money laundering in connection with the Process and Industrial Developments (P&ID) contract.

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday arraigned them on 16 counts of money laundering.

EFCC said the two men were directors of two companies that failed to report to the anti-graft agency about a single deposit of $125,000 into a Nigerian account and also failed to comply with local requirements to declare their activities to the trade and investment ministry. Read more

South Africans resume attack on Nigerians (Guardian)

Nigerians living in South Africa have once again been subjected to an anti-foreigner attack on Tuesday.

South Africans living in Mpumalamga province attacked Nigerians in fresh violence which the leadership of Nigerian Citizens In South Africa (NICASA) confirmed.

Nigeria’s Consular General to South Africa is also on their way to Witbank in Mpumalanga province to address the issue.

In early September fresh outbursts of violence against foreigners erupted in parts of South Africa. Over a dozen people were killed when mobs torched and looted shops and destroyed cars in places such as Johannesburg and Pretoria. Read more

Canada election: Trudeau’s Liberals win but lose majority (BBC)

Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party has retained power in a narrow Canadian election win but he will now be prime minister of a minority government.

The Liberals are projected to win 157 seats, 13 short of a majority, and will find it harder to pass legislation in Mr Trudeau’s second term.

The opposition Conservatives are expected to win the popular vote but have not translated that into seats. Read more

Lufthansa flights back to normal after 100 flights cancelled on Sunday (Guardian)

German airline Lufthansa confirmed on Monday that 100 flights had failed to take off during a token weekend strike called by the Ufo union, representing flight attendants.

“We are now able to fly our normal offer,’’ a Lufthansa spokesman said in Frankfurt after the Sunday strike targeting four company subsidiaries ended at midnight.

The company was evaluating the effects of the strike and considering legal action, she said.

Ufo is to discuss its future action with its collective bargaining committee. Read more

Trump calls impeachment inquiry ‘a lynching’ (BBC)

US President Donald Trump has called the congressional impeachment investigation that may seek to remove him from office “a lynching”.

Mr Trump condemned the inquiry in a tweet as “without due process or fairness or any legal rights”.

But Democrats were outraged at the president for invoking such a grim and racist chapter from US history.

Lynching refers to historic extrajudicial executions by white mobs mainly against black people. Read more

Barca pay 15 million euros for first refusal on Atletico youngsters (Punch)

Barcelona have paid Atletico Madrid 15 million euros for the right to be given first refusal on six Atletico players, AFP learned on Tuesday.

Atletico sources have told AFP the agreement has “nothing to do” with the dispute between the two clubs over the transfer of Antoine Griezmann last summer.

“It is a right of first refusal on a list of players primarily from the academy,” these sources added.

Spanish newspaper El Mundo had claimed on Tuesday the fee is to “make peace in the Griezmann case”.

The agreement allows Barcelona to match or exceed any offers for those players whenever the player wants to leave, Atletico agree to sell and an acceptable bid arrives from a separate club. Read more

Alleged $9.5m FIFA Grant : Court fixes December 16 for AGF report (Guardian)

An FCT High Court, Maitama, on Tuesday fixed December 16 for the office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) to report on the harmonisation of the cases against some NFF officials in the alleged misappropriation of 9.5 million dollars FIFA grant.

Justice Peter Affen had earlier fixed Oct. 22 for ruling on the application filed by the EFCC, to join the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Amaju Pinnick and Secretary-General, Dr Mohammed Sanusi

EFCC dragged three officials of Federation before the court in an alleged 9.5 million dollars FIFA grant misappropriation before applying on April 30 to join both Pinnick and Sanusi in the matter as co-defendants. Read more

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr has criticised a “ridiculous” NFL fine after it was ruled his “pants failed to cover the knee area” during a game.

The 26-year-old has been fined $14,037 (£10,848) for the “uniform violation” in Cleveland’s 32-28 defeat by the Seattle Seahawks on 13 October.

NFL rules state “pants must be worn over the entire knee area”. Read more

Borussia Dortmund flew to Italy without captain Marco Reus and striker Paco Alcacer for Wednesday’s Champions League match at Inter Milan, but previously suspended England winger Jadon Sancho and injured goalkeeper Roman Burki were included.

The Bundesliga club said the 30-year-old playmaker Reus missed Tuesday’s flight because he is “still in poor health” after scoring the winner in Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Bundesliga leaders Moenchengladbach despite suffering from flu.

Alcacer, who like Reus has scored five league goals so far this season, is also out due to the persistent calf injury which has sidelined him since September 28. Read more

Serie A strugglers Genoa announced on Tuesday coach Aurelio Andreazzoli has been sacked after just eight games in charge.
