There are growing concerns over the apparent snail pace of the case challenging the installation of Gbolahan Lawal as the Oniru of Iru land in June 2020 currently before Justice Safari J.
Recall that in December 2019, Prince Akeem Ajasa, a Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, was chosen as the Oniru-elect to succeed the late Oba Abiodun Oniru, who died on September 23, 2019, at the age of 82.
Ajasa’s declaration as the Oniru-elect suffered a major setback when the entire Omowunmi Abisogun ruling family house rejected his announcement saying that his branch, the Ewunmi branch and other branches of Abisogun ruling house are strangers and not of royal lineage.

Family petitions police over missing undergraduate, mother hospitalised (Punch)
The family of a 22-year-old undergraduate of the University of Ibadan, Samson Ajayi, has petitioned the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, accusing the police of delaying investigation into his disappearance and releasing suspects arrested over the matter.
PUNCH Metro had reported that Samson went missing after going to work at a construction site on an estate in the Ajah area Lagos State.
The first-class student had been doing manual labour at the construction site for three weeks due to the ongoing strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
A co-worker at the site informed his mother that he was not seen at work. Read more

Gunmen invade Cross Rivers varsity, abduct one, injure others (Guardian)
Gunmen on Wednesday abducted a student of Arthur Jarvis University in the Akpabuyo local government area of Cross River State.
The student was kidnapped on Tuesday night on the school premises while returning from her night reading.
Some students, who witnessed the kidnapped, confirmed that the female student and her friends were coming from their night reading class before the suspected kidnappers accosted and whisked her away to an undisclosed place.
Others who fled sustained various degrees of injuries.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo, said the commissioner of police, Aminu Alhassan, has drafted the anti-kidnapping, anti-cultism, and dragon Units of the police to restore law and order and secure the kidnap victim. Read more
Cargos trapped as dockworkers shut Apapa Port Terminal (DailyTrust)
Goods worth billions of naira were trapped at the nation’s busiest and largest terminal, APM Terminals Apapa, on Wednesday, as members of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), shut the terminal over the alleged refusal of management to yield to their demands.
The union had issued a strike notice and had extended it by three-day elapsing on Tuesday as they sought resolution of unpaid salaries, welfare issues and anti-labour activities.
Daily Trust observed that the dockworkers took over control of the exit and entry points of the terminal as early as 7am, before the arrival of the key staff while shutting out a Deputy Comptroller of Customs (DC) in the terminals.
The Task Force Chairman of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Apapa chapter, Frank Aliakor said: “There is a palpable fear it may result in the withdrawal of service, though we heard it was a warning strike due to unpaid salaries of the workers by the terminals. NCAA suspends Dana Air operations indefinitely

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended Dana Airlines’ Air Transport Licence (ATL) and Air Operator Certificate (AOC), indefinitely.
NCAA Director-General, Captain Musa Nuhu, announced this in a statement on Wednesday.
He stated that the suspension of the operations of the airlines would take effect from midnight of July 20.
“The suspension was made pursuant to Section 35(2), 3(b) and (4) of the Civil Aviation Act, 2006 and Part 1.3.3.3(a)(1) of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig.CARs), 2015,” Nuhu said. Read more

10 soldiers struck by lighting at US Army base (Metro)
Ten soldiers were struck by lightning and injured at a US Army base in Georgia.
A lightning bolt struck the Fort Gordon base’s training area around 11.10am on Wednesday, said range control officials according to WJBF.
The extent of the soldiers’ injuries was not immediately known.
Fort Gordon’s Department of Emergency Services and Emergency Medical Services immediately responded to the scene.
The fort conducts base support operations to ‘enable mission readiness and provides an enhanced quality of life for the Service Members, Families and Civilians of Fort Gordon and the Gillem Enclave’, states its website. Read more

Dave Chappelle’s comedy show on Wednesday in Minneapolis has been switched to a different venue after the club faced criticism from the public for booking the comedian.
Chappelle’s performance was canceled and moved from First Avenue to a nehours before the show was scheduled to take place.
Chappelle’s representatives did not immediately return PEOPLE’s request for comment.

According to him, people do not like to pay for using music, hence GHAMRO sometimes struggles to collect royalties from some institutions.
Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hiz FM he explained that on numerous occasions they have had to sue media houses, and telecommunication companies among others before they were able to retrieve the needed funds.

US officials recovered possible Fabergé egg from Russian oligarch’s seized yacht (CNN)
US law enforcement officials recovered what appeared to be a Fabergé egg from a yacht seized from a Russian oligarch in Fiji, Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco said Wednesday.
The $300 million yacht, owned by sanctioned Russian oligarch Suleiman Kerimov, was sailed by US law enforcement officials from Fiji to the San Diego Bay late last month, where it remains docked.
Monaco told the Aspen Security Forum that the jeweled egg, which, if authentic, would make it one of the few remaining in the world and worth millions of dollars, was one of the more “interesting” discoveries federal law enforcement officials have made aboard the seized yachts. The eggs, now priceless collectibles, were created by the House of Fabergé in Saint Petersburg between the late 19th century and the early 20th century. Read more
