Ambode attributes development, peace in Lagos to God’s intervention (Guardian)

Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode on Saturday attributed the high level of development, peaceful coexistence and stable economy enjoyed in Lagos State to God’s intervention.Ambode made the assertion at the 2018 Lagos Marathon Praise in Lagos, organised by the Office of the Wife of the state governor in collaboration with Jubilee Concept International in Lagos. “The Lord is indeed worthy and will forever be praised for all He has done and will continue to do in our lives as a people,’’ Ambode, represented by his Special Adviser on Education, Mr Obafela Bank-Olemoh said, “As a Government, we give glory to God for His innumerable blessings and the good things He has made possible to happen in our state within three years of our administration.“Each time I reflect on the level of development our state has experienced within this period, I come to the conclusion that this could not have been possible without God. Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode took mantle of leadership of Lagos State on May 29, 2015 like a ship with seemingly no destination. The governor was just about settling down for the business of governance when the corollary of the rocky start began to be felt in major sectors, especially security and traffic management. Naturally, tempers flared and people started asking questions to the point of raising doubt about the ability of Ambode to step into the “big shoes” left by his predecessor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, now Minister of Power, Works and Housing. In the face of the initial turbulence, he kept calm and remained focused on the big picture and, soon, the story changed and people who castigated him initially started showering praises on him for sterling performance. $12,000 up for grabs at Moorhouse-Epe Cycle Race (Nation)

A total prize money of $12,000 (About N4.3million) will be won at the maiden edition of the Moorhouse-Epe Cycle Race scheduled to hold in Epe Town in Lagos State on Sunday, 30th September, 2018, the eve of Independence Day. According to the organizers, Moorhouse Properties, the event would be divided into several categories and would accommodate secondary school children, professionals, and veterans (amateurs). The course will be an 18-kilometre undulating circuit within and around Epe Town on smooth roads newly reconstructed by Lagos State.  Participants will take in the main sights of the town, the gateway to Epe, the Marina, and the hinterland as the hilly topography of Epe Town is certain to make for an intense ride. Professional cyclists from around Nigeria, Africa and Europe have already indicated interest to participate in the Moorhouse-Epe Cycle Race. Read more

CCD tasks Lagos state on special persons’ law implementation (Guardian)

The Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) has called for the full implementation of Lagos State Special Persons Law (LSSPL) by public and private sectors in the state. Executive Director of the Centre, Mr. David Anyaele, made the call during the public presentation of a research report conducted by the centre on the level of compliance of public institutions in the state to the provisions of the law, held at Protea Hotel, Alausa, Lagos, at the weekend. Anyaele regretted that seven years after the enactment of the LSSPL, compliance is still low. He stressed that the research was conducted as part of activities lined-up for the CCD’s project on Promoting Disability Rights and Citizens with Disabilities Participation in Electoral Process in Lagos State, which is supported by the Ford Foundation. NRC conveys 40 containers out of Lagos Port Daily (Leadership)

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) said its Lagos district currently conveys at least 40 containers of imports from Apapa port to some depots in and out of Lagos. Engr. Jerry Oche, Lagos District Manager (RDM) of the corporation who made this known while fielding questions from Journalists in Lagos recently said the imports are evacuated twice daily by rail from from Apapa port to deports at Ebute-Metta Junction, in Lagos state, Ijoko in Ogun state and Omiadio in Oyo state. He disclosed that the containers that are designated for the railway depots outside the ports are inspected inside the A. P. Moller Terminal  by relevant government agencies  before moving them by rail to the railway deports for onward transfer to trailers parked close to the depots. Read more

FG urged to guarantee produce market for farmers (DailyTrust)

Engr. Abdullahi Kanti Mohammed, Chairman of MFB Fertilizer Company, Kaduna has called on the various tiers of government to provide reassuring guarantees to cover the volume of crops produced by registered farmers in the country as a means of making the most gains out of the current Presidential Fertilizer Initiative (PFI).  Kanti said the guarantee has become necessary following records of improved crop production as a result of the successful PFI programme that has enabled farmers to access fertilizer early in the planting season and at affordable prices. He expressed fear that farmers may soon begin to face challenges bordering on lack of off-takers for their harvest. Read more

The National School Fair begun yesterday at the Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos while other fairs would hold in three other locations on Saturday June 16 at the Sheraton Hotel, Lagos, Saturday, June 23rd at the Sheraton Hotel, Abuja, and Saturday, June 30, 2018 at the Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt. The National School Fair is a platform for schools to meet critical stakeholders like parents, Information Technology companies, banks, insurance companies and state governments. More Lagos women embrace family planning (Nation)

The family planning clinics installed by the Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative (NURHI) in some selected Primary Healthcare Clinics (PHCs) in Lagos State are gaining roots and yielding the desired results. To assist residents of the centre of excellence to attain quality lives, the NURHI in 2016 began a 72-hour renovation and equipping of family planning clinics in about 60 selected public health facilities in Lagos State under the aegis of NURHI 2. A tour of some of these facilities organised by an NGO, Development Communications (Devcoms) with some selected journalists of print, electronic and online platforms, showed that family planning in Lagos State is yielding the desired results among residents.
