Ambode extends Agric-Ishawo Road project to Arepo (Vanguard)

Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Wednesday approved the extension of ongoing Agric-Ishawo dual carriageway road project to Arepo in Ogun State, saying the development became imperative in view of the determination to rev up the economic integration of South Western States. Speaking while embarking on an extensive inspection of major ongoing projects in the Ikorodu division of the State which lasted till late in the evening, Governor Ambode said the projects would be delivered as part of efforts to make the sub-urban areas in the State economically viable and livable, thereby making life comfortable for residents and boosting the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the State. Onilekere residents petition NERC over crazy bills, failure to provide pre-paid meters (Guardian)

Residents of Onilekere Community Movement, comprising of Shodeke, Egba, Oluyemi and Okitipupa Streets of Onilekere, Ikeja, Lagos has petitioned the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) over the inability of Ikeja Electric to provide pre-paid meters as instructed by the agency. The community had taken Ikeja Electric to NERC tribunal over crazy bills and lack of pre-paid meters under petition no. IFO/1096/2017 on January 2018. According to the community leaders, the hearing was conducted between the representatives of Ikeja Electric, the community and members of NERC panel. At the end of the hearing, NERC instructed Ikeja Electric to provide pre-paid meters to the residents in the community within two weeks from the date of the said ruling, which the Bale of the Community, Chief Toyin Oko-Osi, said expired since February 8, 2018. Concessionaire for Computer Village relocation plans Katangowa ICT park (Guardian)

Bridgeways Global Projects Limited, the concessionaire for the construction of the proposed Kantagowa ICT Business Park, has said the plan to build the park is beyond providing another real estate for the relocation of Ikeja Computer Village. The company said the Lagos Katangowa ICT Business Park plans to provide a world class technology incubation platform to give entrepreneurs and businesses the opportunity to create value in development of technology software and hardware development. Recall that the Lagos State government concessioned the Katangowa ICT Business Park, located along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway to Bridgeways Global Projects Ltd, for development of the ICT Business Park, as part of its plan to relocate the Computer Village Ikeja to a more befitting and purpose-built location. World Environment Day: CBN, Visionscape partner on polymer recovery (Vanguard)

As part of activities to mark the United Nations 2018 World Environment Day, Visionscape Sanitation Solutions, in partnership with the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, held a presentation on polymer resource recovery. On the partnership, Visionscape’s  Head of Corporate Communications, Motunrayo Elias, said CBN will support key United Nations sustainable development goals. Also speaking, the CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, said: “This game-changing  move will provide an opportunity for CBN to renew its commitments towards Sustainable Banking Principles, the achieve-ments of UN’s sustainable development goals and the Paris Climate Change Agreement, because a reduction in plastic use will bring about reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and our carbon footprint.” Read more

Lagos can’t become Smart City without retraining – Ambode, UNILAG VC (Pmnews)

Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode and the Vice Chancellor, University of Lagos, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe have said that Lagos will not be able to attain the Smart City status without frequent retraining of manpower to drive the process. The duo spoke at a two-day training in Ikeja, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria for civil servants. Speaking, Ambode, who was represented by the Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Dr. Benson Oke, said there was need to equip civil servants with the needed skills to catapult the state to a Smart City. He said for that to happen, red tapism must be eradicated in the civil service so that innovative and smart ideas would be allowed to drive the system. Read more

Group urges Lagosians to get their PVCs (ThisDay)

The Coordinator of Good Governance Group (G3), Joseph Rennaiye, has appealed to Lagosians to get their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) in order to exercise their voting rights during the 2019 general elections. Speaking in Lagos at the Voters’ Awareness Campaign exercise organised by the group which is an association convened by the Senior Pastor, Global Impact Church, Pastor Yemi Davids, the Coordinator of the Group, Rennaiye, said part of what they are set out to do is to engender good governance and the bedrock of good governance all over the world is democracy. LASG conducts screening for 11,000 pupils (Punch)

The Lagos State Government has conducted its 2018 Screening Test for over 11,000 candidates seeking admission into the 16 Lagos State Junior Model Colleges and Upgraded Junior Secondary Schools. The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Mrs. Adebunmi Adekanye, while monitoring the examination in some Paper Based Test centres being conducted at 43 designated locations across the state, noted that the introduction of the Digital Innovation Question Paper in the examination had eliminated examination malpractice. Lagos APC pushes for Ratification of Banire’s Suspension by NWC (ThisDay)

Hundred of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Thursday gathered at the state secretariat of the party to demand for the ratification of the suspension of the party’s National Legal Adviser, Dr. Muiz Banire, which was carried out in July last year, saying he did not only engages in political rascality, but also a dissident. The party faithful in a letter to the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, lamented that the refusal of the national leadership to ratify the suspension of Banire has embolden him in his antiparty activities. According to the petition signed by the Legal Adviser of the party in Mushin, Lagos, Mr. Femi Martins, “such recalcitrant and political rascality (as displayed by Banire) undermines the democratic process, and parties at all levels must continue to strive to ensure decorum from its members, hence the protest of party faithful against Banire which resulted in his suspension, and was an exercise directed at saving the soul of the party and not a political vendetta.” Read more

NSCDC official damages Lagos pupil’s eye for noisemaking (Punch)

An official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp, James Ogundele, has damaged one of the eyes of a 16-year-old pupil, Daniel Adedokun. Ogundele was said to have flogged the Junior Secondary School three pupil of Ikosi Junior High School with a horsewhip for playing in the classroom. It was gathered that in the course of the punishment, the horsewhip entered into one of the eyes of the pupil. A source said Adedokun and his friend, one James, were accused of noisemaking by the assistant class captain. The boys were reported to the class teacher, who took the two pupils for punishment on the school premises. Read more

Lagos clearing agent charged with alleged N.250m Fraud (Independent)

A 35-year-old clearing agent, Thompson Ayetola has been arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly obtaining N250,000 cash under false pretext to supply 20ft container. Ayetola is facing a-one count charge of fraud. The prosecutor, Inspector Augustine Ejembi told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on August 20, 2016 at Ijora Badia, Apapa, Lagos. Ejembi said, “The defendant fraudulently obtain a cash sum of N250,000 from one Kazeem Yussuff with pretext to supply him one 20ft container knowing fully to be false.” Read more

Man sells company’s property to travel abroad (Punch)

A 28-year-old man, Lucky Ibrahim, has been arrested by the police in Lagos for allegedly diverting proceeds from sales of his company’s property for the purpose of travelling out of the country. Punch Metro gathered that the Edo State indigene started working with SoundTrax Allied Digital in Benin, Edo State, from January 2015, till March 2017, when he was transferred to Lagos. Upon his transfer, he resumed as the manager of the company’s Lagos office in the Ifako Ijaiye area. In an attempt to seek greener pasture, he allegedly sold property of the company to raise the required funds to travel to Europe. Read more

Police arrest 3 for viciously raping teenager in Lagos (ThisDay)

The Ilemba-Hausa Division of the Lagos State Police Command, wednesday arrested three suspects for viciously raping a 15-year-old girl at the Ajangbadi area of the state. The suspects who were identified as 21-year-old Ibeji Chukwuemaka, 21-year-old Caleb Isaac and 23-year-old. Paul Ehimika, were arrested after they lured the victim, one Uloma Okafor to their room and took turns with her repeatedly. It was gathered that the suspects blindfolded her and raped her viciously, tearing her privates in the process after they had taken repeated turns with her at their residence at 52 Jagua Street, Itakete Imude in Ajangbadi. Alleged illegal taxi operators arrested in Lagos (Punch)

4 taxi operators have been arrested for alleged illegal operation in the Agege area of Lagos State. Punch Metro gathered that the accused – Alfa Abubakar Sakariyaw, Salaudeen Hassan, Emmanuel Adetunji and Aliu Akangbe –allegedly painted their taxis in the yellow colour of the Lagos State Taxi Drivers and Cab Operators Association, but were operating under the National Union of Road Transport Workers, which was illegal. But Sakariyaw, who said he was the Agege branch chairman of LSTDCOA from 2004 to 2012, explained that after consistent raids in Agege by the state task force men, the members decided to join NURTW. Army deserter dismissed for impersonation, arrested for robbery (Punch)

A deserter, Emmanuel Anthony, who was recently dismissed by the army authorities at the 81 Division for impersonation, is in another trouble. Punch Metro learnt that the 28-year-old after his dismissal was arraigned before an Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court in April 2018 for posing as an army lieutenant to commit crime. His photograph was reportedly spotted in the media by a man who identified him as a member of the gang that robbed him of a Lexus SUV on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway sometime in February 2018. Man stabs mother dead in Lagos (Vanguard)

A 37-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his mother, 65, to death at their Oremeji residence in Lagos, Wednesday. Vanguard gathered that the suspect, Nurdeen Bakare, had been threatening to carry out the act on his mother. His elder brother, Sunday Tifase, who reported the matter to the Police, said the suspect allegedly stabbed his mother with a knife in her stomach and neck without any reason. Spokesman for Lagos State Police Command, Chike Oti, confirmed the inccident. Read more
