Ambode inaugurates new Abiola statue, calls for restructuring (Punch)
The Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Tuesday inaugurated the new 37-foot statue of the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief MKO Abiola at the Alapere area of the state. The governor had earlier canvassed for restructuring of the nation at the June 12 anniversary celebration held in Ikeja, noting that both the Ikeja celebration and the inauguration of the statue were in honour of Abiola. At the Ikeja event, Ambode said the theme, ‘Restructuring: Antidote for Ineffective and Ineffective Politics,’ was the stand of the people “and our stand on a restructuring process that will lead to fiscal federalism, devolution of power is very clear.” Read more
Ikoyi, environs to experience power interruption — EKEDC (Vanguard)
The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) on Tuesday announced that there would be power interruption four hours daily in Ikoyi and other adjoining areas in Lagos Island for the next one week. Mr Godwin Idemudia, the General Manager, Corporate Communications of EKEDEC made this known in a statement in Lagos. According to Idemudia, the week-long power interruption is to enable the company carry out service improvement rehabilitation work on Shaw Road 11KV Feeder covering Ikoyi and environs. He said that the rehabilitation work would enhance better service delivery to the company’s customers in the area. Read more
Sallah: Ambode to fete Muslims in 20 councils (Nation)
Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, along with his wife, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode, will celebrate Eid-il-Fitri with Muslims simultaneously in Lagos. The celebration will hold at designated locations in each of the 20 Local Government Areas across the State. At these venues, apart from the usual merriment associated with such festivals, celebrating Muslims will have the opportunity to pray for sustainability of peace and continuation of development for Lagos. Taxify wants young Nigerians to get their PVC (Guardian)
As part of effort celebrating democracy in Nigeria, ride-hailing app, Taxify has called on young Nigerians to as a matter of urgency get their permanent voters card (PVC) ahead of next year’s election. Taxify stressed that the journey to a better Nigeria is in the hands of those who have their PVCs. Millennials, including first time voters make up a significant portion of Taxify’s rider base and according to Taxify’s City Manager, Uche Okafor: “We believe cities and countries work best when everybody has a say. We are excited by the conversations happening both on and offline. Young Nigerians are perhaps for the first time interested in taking charge of their futures and in celebration of democracy day, we want to make the journey to getting a PVC hassle free for everyone.” Read more
Ikeja Military Cantonment owes N1.57bn unpaid electricity bill (BusinessDay)
Electricity supply to ikeja cantonment, Lagos, one of the foremost military information in the country has been restricted to two hours a day by Ikeja Electric following a huge electricity debt hanging on the military barrack. BusinessDay investigations revealed that the army formation before privatisation was owing the company about N1.5 billion and currently owes it about N1.57 billion. A source close to the power industry however said that the army formation has been paying paltry sums which most times could barely have an impact on the total debt on ground. Kola Adesina, chairman of Sahara Power group, while explaining the efforts the company is making to recover some of the debts being owed the utility company by customers across its operational area disclosed that electricity supply to the military formation has been restricted to two hours a day. NSE Ikeja inducts 102 members (Punch)
The Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ikeja Branch, inducted 102 new members at a ceremony that coincided with its annual lecture. The lecture was the eight in the series and was held in honour of the late OluAwoyinfa, who was the founding father of the Ikeja branch of the NSE. The Chairman of the branch, AkintayoAkintola, extolled the virtues of the late Awoyinfa, describing him as a rare breed, “a selfless leader per excellence, a visionary and committed team player, who paved away for the actualisation of the dreams and aspirations of up and coming engineers in his life time.” Read more

Group calls for implementation of Lagos Special Persons Law (Guardian)
Centre for Citizens for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) has called for the full implementation of the Lagos State Special Persons Law (LSSPL) by public and private sectors in the state. The director general of the Centre, Mr. David Anyaele, made the call during a public presentation of the report from the research conducted on the Assessment of the level of compliance of public institutions in Lagos to the provisions of the Lagos State Special Persons Law. He said the research was conducted as part of lined up activity for the CCD’s project on promoting disability rights and citizens with disabilities participation in electoral process in Lagos State, which is supported by Ford Foundation. Girl,10, wins 2018 AFED unified exam in Lagos (Vanguard)
A 10-year-old pupil of J.Day Spring School, Festac, Lagos, Miss Oghale Akokota, has won the 2018 Unified Examination of the Association of Formidable Education Development (AFED). The schools were charging between N9,000 and N25,000 per session. Akokota, a primary six pupil, emerged the winner in the six educational districts, while Miss Barbara Mezeh, also of J.Day Spring School, Festac, Lagos came second. The first and second position received N50,000 and N30,000 respectively, while other winners got consolation prizes. Read more
Lagos Police uncovers illegal Blood Bank, recovers 7 pints (ThisDay)
The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, Imohimi Edgal, has arrested 45 years Achegbulu Paul for operating an illegal blood bank in his one room with children as donors, recovered seven pints of blood. According to police report, Achegbulu was arrested after he drew four pints of blood from 17 years old Ayomide Adesanya on Monday June 4 and Sunday June 10. He took two pints each on the two days. The medical lab technician of 18 Kusa bus stop Bariga was said to have lured under aged kids. He paid them 2,000 naira each while he sold for 7,000. According to the PPRO Lagos, SP Chike Oti, the CP led operatives of the Command to the Bariga to see the blood bank and paid a visit to the victim at the hospital after the case got to the Command. Man who ripped out friend’s heart for ritual says regrets not started making money yet (Vanguard)
A middle-aged man, identified as Daniel, who connived with two of his colleagues to kill and rip out the heart of one of their friends, Isaiah James, for ritual purpose said his only regret is that they had not started making money from the ritual before their arrest According to Daniel, who was arrested in Ajah area of Lagos and is being interrogated at the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCIID, Panti, Yaba, alongside three others, “I do regret killing my friend. “I didn’t feel anything while I was removing his heart. Killing a human being is the same thing as an animal. My regret is that we did not succeed in making money before we were arrested.” Read more

Management of Atlantic Hall School, Poka-Epe, Lagos State, over the weekend, announced and flagged-off N2.5billion project for the construction of an ultra-modern sports complex within the 30-hectare land space on which the college is built. MultiChoice extends hours for Russia 2018 (Punch)
MultiChoice Nigeria has announced an extension of its call centre operating hours from 8am till midnight daily, until July 16, because of the 2018 World Cup, which kicks off on Thursday in Russia. This extension will allow customers on its DStv and GOtv platforms have access to quality service as they enjoy every moment of the tournament. Amstel drums up support for Eagles (Punch)
The official malt drink of the Super Eagles, Amstel Malta has backed the national team to succeed at the 2018 World Cup, which begins in Russia on Thursday. Nigerian Breweries signed a partnership deal with the Nigerian Football Federation in February conferring the right of “Official Malt Drink of all the Nigerian National Football Teams on Amstel Malta.” “We are proud to announce that Amstel Malta together with over 180 million fans, is getting behind our best – the Super Eagles,” Amstel said in a statement.
