Criticisms trails Police raid of Edwin Clark’s Abuja house (Vanguard)

The Police, yesterday raided the Abuja residence of former Federal Commissioner for Information and South-South Leader, Chief Edwin Clark, for alleged possession of arms and ammunition. The policemen stormed the 43, Haile Selassie Street, Asokoro, residence of the 91-year-old elder statesman at 12.30 and left at 2.30 pm, after carrying out a search of the entire house for two hours. Osinbajo’s opinion on state police contrasts Buhari’s (Guardian)

Nigeria’s Vice-president Yemi Osinbajo again on Tuesday made a case for state police in the country, which has been one of the many demands of the those calling for the restructuring of the country and has enjoyed the support of the Nigerian Senate. UPDATED: Fani-Kayode still held at Force Headquarters (SUN)       

About three hours after a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, arrived at the Police Force Headquarters, in Abuja, for interview over alleged conspiracy, criminal and inciting publication, he is yet to be released, as at time of filing this report. Fani-Kayode, who arrived the Force Headquarters at about 2:35pm, on Tuesday, had a running battle with the security personnel stationed at the entrance gate to the complex when they asked him and those accompanying him to surrender their mobile telephone handsets with the operatives. Community, Eko DisCo trade words over electricity supply (Guardian)

The Papa Ajao community of Mushin and Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) are on a warpath over issues on power supply.The community threatened to totally disconnect from EKEDC’s supply as a result of high electricity bills. Members of the community in a protest at the company’s Mushin unit, complained of high bills since January this year, saying charges had increased by about 50 per cent. Read more

Following renewed bargain hunting embarked upon by stock market investors, transactions on the equity sector of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), closed upbeat yesterday, as the All-share index rose marginally by 0.3 per cent. Specifically, at the close of transactions yesterday, the All Share Index (ASI) gained 96.18 absolute points, representing a growth of 0.3 per cent to close at 34,933.86 points.
