Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has explained that the Olusosun dumpsite in Ojota was shut because the location posed a health risk to residents of the area.
Ambode spoke on Friday while addressing scavengers and other workers following a recent fire outbreak at the site. He said besides the negative health implication, the dump was also susceptible to other hazards.
The governor, who was visiting the site the second time since the fire, said though it was gratifying there was no casualty, the closure had become necessary to forestall future occurrence and protect the health of residents.
He said much as government was unwilling to make people in the area lose their means of livelihood, it was important for all stakeholders to agree on progress. Read more
