Ambode’s 5,000 buses arrive in batches (Nation)
The new environmentally-friendly high capacity buses, which are now arriving the state in batches, were also equipped with modern facilities to bring about comfort and seamless travelling experience along the dedicated routes, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has said. Under the Bus Reform Initiative, 5,000 new buses are expected to be added to the public transport system, while other components of the scheme such as modern bus terminals, bus depots, bus stops and segregated laybys are already springing up in strategic locations across the State. This is aside the Intelligent Transport System mechanism of the initiative which will aid Lagosians to plan their journeys. Read more
Court dismisses suit challenging Oluwa of Lagos’ installation (Nation)
Justice Babajude Candide Johnson of an Ikeja High Court has dismissed a N5 million suit challenging the installation of the Oluwa of Lagos, Chief Mukaila Kolawole Oluwa. The court said the suit was “an abuse of court process that call for dismissal”. Three contestants to the Oluwa stool were Prince Ismail Abayomi Oluwa, Prince Samsideen Akibo Oluwa and Prince Tajudeen Ototo Oluwa. Aside from Chief Oluwa, the other defendant in the suit is the Attorney-General of Lagos State who were sued as co-defendants. The decision of the court has paved the way for continuation of processes leading to the upgrade of the stool of Oluwa to Obaship, which had been stalled by litigation. Read more
Lagos Gets New Federal Commissioner for Public Complaints Commission (ThisDay)
The Lagos State Office of the Public Complaint Commission (PCC), now has a new Federal Commissioner, Hon. Abimbola Ayo-Yusuf. Ayo-Yusuf, who replaced the former Commissioner, Mr. Funso Olukoga, having served two terms, has now fully resumed duty. His resumption followed the last week inauguration of the Chief Commissioner, Hon. Chile Igbawua Zasha and 37 other Federal Commissioners representing the 36 States of the Federation, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, by the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki in Abuja. The PCC, is an organ of the Government, set up to redress complaints lodged by aggrieved citizens or residents in Nigeria, against administrative injustice. Read more

One of the mainstay airports in Nigeria is the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos, which has continued to attract investors and air travellers. Lagos State is the financial and commercial epicenter of Nigeria, contributing a huge per cent to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The state also houses the country’s best local and international airport – the busiest airport in West Africa. So, when Mr. Fouad Oki, a leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, in an unprecedented challenge of the status quo, forced a change, it became a big deal. The former Director General of all the governorship campaigns in the state since 2003 had surprisingly stood up to challenge the continued over lordship, dominance of the party by Asiwaju Bola Armed Tinubu, a former governor of the state and the obvious authority in the affairs of the party. Idris who spoke in Lagos during an event organised by TG Arla Dairy Nigeria to mark the World Milk Day with the theme: Raise a Glass, Nourish Naija, said the theme couldn’t have come at a better time than now as statistics have shown that the stunting rate among children in Lagos is 11.4 per cent and 10.8 per cent in other parts of Nigeria. NiMet predicts rain in Lagos, Abuja, others Tuesday (PremiumTimes)
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted possible thunderstorms over the central cities of the country, including Abuja, Jos, Lafia, Minna, Bida, Makurdi, Lafia and Ibi later in the day on Tuesday. Other cities listed are Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Jalingo and Mambilla Plateau, Ilorin and Ibbi in Taraba. NiMet’s Weather Outlook issued by its Central Forecast Office in Abuja on Monday also predicted day and night temperatures in the range of 27 to 31 degrees and 20 to 23 degrees Celsius respectively. The agency predicted that the southern states would experience cloudy conditions over the inland cities with chances of thunderstorm and rain over Port Harcourt, Calabar, Lagos, Eket and Ikom during the morning hours. Rainy Season: Lagos inspects dumpsite Facilities (ThisDay)
In preparation for the coming rains, the Lagos State Government has embarked on an inspection of dumpsite facilities across the state with a view to ensuring that operators comply with standards. The Commissioner for the Environment, Mr. Babatunde Durosinmi-Etti stated this while leading a team from the Ministry to the dump sites on Tuesday. Durosinmi-Etti said that government has directed that additional platforms should be created at the dump sites, while operators of dump sites and Transfer Loading Stations have been asked to urgently apply deodorizer to douse odours emanating from waste. N118m ‘dud cheque’: Police oppose Lagos prophet’s N4m claim (Nation)
An Ikeja High Court will, on Thursday, hear the police application seeking to dismiss a N4 million damages claim filed by Prophet Samson Ayorinde of the World Evangelism Church at Ojota in Lagos State. The claimants – Ayorinde, Registered Trustees of World Evangelism Incorporated and Reverend Harold Chinoyerem – filed the suit before Justice A. A. Adesanya through their lawyer Emmanuel B. Benjamin. The defendants are: Oludare Aturamu, Mrs. Kemi Adesanya, Smart Link Property Services, Lagos State Police Commissioner, the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (SCIID) at Panti in Lagos, the Officer-in-Charge of Assistant Commissioner Section and a Superintendent of Police (SP), Alhaji Aminu, of SCIID at Panti. Lagos police boss sacks anti-cultism squad over corruption (Guardian)
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal, yesterday redeployed the officer and men in charge of the anti-cultism squad over alleged unprofessional conducts and corruption. The police spokesman in Lagos, CSP Chike Oti, said in a statement that the move was to reposition and reinvigorate the command’s anti-cultism squad. According to him, reorganisation of the squad was necessitated by the unprofessional conducts of its personnel and corruption in the unit. The Guardian gathered that he was in the habit of collecting bribe to release suspected cultists. Read more
Mushin residents cry out over ‘frequent police assault’ (Nation)
Some residents of Ilasamaja in Mushin, Lagos, have raised the alarm over what they called incessant assault by policemen. They appealed to police commissioner Imohimi Edgal to save them from the policemen. The residents of Oremeji, Kekere-Owo, Olusanya, Lamina, Owoseni Ishola and Waheed Apesin streets, Ilasamaja alleged that the officers from different commands had turned their areas into Automated Teller Machine (ATM) portals. “They come to arrest people on sight and demand heavy amount for bail,” they said. A raid, carried out on Friday was described as the height of insensitivity displayed by the officers. Read more
Driver, 45 arraigned for alleged Manslaughter in Lagos (Independent)
The Police in Lagos on Tuesday arraigned a 45-year-old driver, Blessing Ihende, at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly causing the death of a 39-year-old man, Alloh Alloysius. Ihende, who resides at No. 9, Efalaye St., Shasha in Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of reckless driving and manslaughter. The prosecution, Sgt. Michael Unah alleged that the accused recklessly drove a van with registration no. AGL 909 XM in a dangerous manner and damaged a TVS tricycle (Keke napep) with Reg. No. EKY 883 QH, belonging to one Godwin Idahosa. Unah told the court that the accused committed the offences on May 21 at about 6.00 a. m. at Adeniyi Jones Avenue in Ikeja, Lagos. Read more
Eid-el-Fitr tragedy: Visitor stabbed to death in Lagos (Vanguard)
It was a sad Eid-El-Fitri celebration for the Idowu family, following the discovery of the lifeless body of their visitor in front of their home at 1 Modupe Street in Alapere area of Lagos. The deceased, Taofeek Sosanya, (28) as gathered came from Iperu in Ogun State to celebrate the just concluded El-id Fitri with his friend, Femi Idowu, with a plan to return to his base yesterday. However, on Sunday night, the visitor was said to have left his friend’s apartment to receive fresh air outside, as there was power cut. He was said to have slept off in the process. Read more
