Andy Murray hoping to make singles return this year as he gears up for Queen’s doubles (Metro)

Andy Murray is optimistic about his chances of playing singles in 2019, as he prepares to compete in doubles at Queen’s next week.

The former world No. 1 underwent a hip resurfacing operation at the end of January, which has revitalised his chances of making a return to the professional game.

Murray will team up with Spain’s Feliciano Lopez on the Fever-Tree Championships grass courts in a welcome return for British sport, but he has his eyes on a comeback in singles later this year.

While the three-time Grand Slam champion is not expecting a swift return to action – and suggested he wouldn’t be ready in time for the US Open – he is hopeful of returning to top-level singles this season. Read more
