Organisers of this year’s edition of the Women in Journalism Conference (WiJ2019) have announced the initial speaker line up. The list of speakers for this edition, which is the fifth includes Anna Cunningham, Mayeni Jones and Olusola Momoh.
A statement by the WiJ2019 team said they were excited to announce this initial speaker line up for the conference taking place on October 5, 2019 at the Lagos Oriental Hotel and will unveil more speakers soon.
Anna Cunningham is a London-based award-winning journalist whose most recent assignment was a four-year stint in Nigeria. She has reported for the CBC for the past nine years, including from Mumbai and Paris. She previously worked for 10 years at the BBC where she covered the front lines in far-out countries, including Afghanistan.
Mayeni Jones is a multilingual, multimedia journalist, currently working as the BBC’s Nigeria Correspondent. She covers Nigerian and regional news for the BBC’s British and international outlets. Prior to moving to Nigeria she worked as a presenter, reporter and producer for the BBC’s African affairs programme, Focus on Africa, both on TV and radio. Stories she has covered include the 2019 Nigerian Presidential Elections, the release of the kidnapped Dapchi schoolgirls in March 2018, the attack on the Palace of Westminster in March 2017, as well as the French and Angolan presidential elections of the same year.
Olusola T. Momoh is the Vice Chairman of one of Nigeria’s foremost news channels, Channels TV. She possesses more than 30 years’ experience in journalism and has been instrumental in promoting the growth of quality news reporting and investigative journalism through the Channels TV platform for more than 20 years.
Nelly Ating is a freelance Journalist and doubles as a Photojournalist reporting from the front lines of Boko Haram in Northeast Nigeria. With her unique skills as a writer, Ating wades into the conflict’s hot zones to document the destruction that Boko Haram has wrought on Adamawa, Borno and the other states in which the terrorist had a presence.
