Another 284 people infected by coronavirus across Nigeria

Nigeria’s coronavirus cases increased further on Wednesday by 284 in 12 states and the FCT. The total number of infections is now 6,677.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced the new numbers via tweet, saying that Lagos recorded 199 infections, Rivers 26 and Oyo 19. The FCT and Borno had eight each, Plateau seven, Jigawa six, Kano five, Abia two, and Ekiti, Delta, Kwara, and Taraba recorded one case each.

So far, 200 people have died since February 27 when the COVID-19 coronavirus was first recorded in the country, while 1,840 have recovered and consequently been discharged.

The NCDC said it has carried out tests on over 35,983 samples across the country. It also corrected the error it said was made on May 18, when eight new cases were erroneously announced for Zamfara.

“Therefore, as at the 20th of May 2020, Zamfara has recorded a total of 76 confirmed cases. We apologise to @Zamfara_state for this error and reiterate our commitment to accurate & transparent reporting of data,” the NCDC tweeted.
