A fuel laden tanker has gone up in flames in Jigawa State, North West Nigeria.

The incident which happened at Jigawa-Kano border, caused panic among bystanders.

Navy receives helicopters procured by defence ministry for operations (Punch)

The Nigerian Navy has taken delivery of three Agusta Westland 109 Trekker helicopters.

The helicopters, which were purchased by the Ministry of Defence, were handed over to the Navy on November 12, 2024.

A statement released on Wednesday by the Director of Naval Information, Commodore A. Adams-Aliu, said the Ministry of Defence handed over the helicopters to the Navy at a brief ceremony in Lagos. Read more

Customs revenue collection hit N5.7t in 1 year (Channels)

The Nigeria Customs Service has announced a revenue collection of N5.7 trillion as of November 12, 2024.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, disclosed this on Wednesday at the ongoing 2024 Comptroller-General of Customs Conference in Abuja.

According to him, the revenue exceeded its target for the year by 10 per cent. Read more

19 of 38 directors fail Permanent secretary qualifying exam — HoS (Vanguard)

Out of 38 directors shortlisted for the position of permanent secretaries in the Federal Civil Service, 19 have failed the qualifying examination.

Recall that in October the Federal Government, through the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), initiated the process of selecting new permanent secretaries to fill vacancies in eight states.

A memo from the OHCSF, dated October 7, 2024, and signed by the Head of Civil Service, Didi Walson-Jack, confirmed that officials undergoing disciplinary procedures were ineligible to apply.

Adeleke hosts Military delegation, hails state burial for late Army Chief, Lagbaja (ThisDay)

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, yesterday, received a high-powered military delegation in preparation for the burial of late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, describing the planned state burial for the deceased as right and fitting.

Receiving General Kamar Ishola Yusuf, who led other seven serving Generals to his office, Adeleke described the late Army Chief as a bright star of Osun and Nigeria that dimmed too early, noting that his service to the fatherland would never be forgotten.

The governor commended the decision of President Bola Tinubu to grant the late army chief a state burial and also applauded the declaration by the army delegation that all the four community projects started by the deceased would be completed. Read more

Gov Kefas approves ₦70k minimum wage for Taraba workers (Channels)

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas has approved ₦70,000 new minimum wage for workers in Taraba State.

The implementation is with effect from November 2024.

This was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday by the state Head of Service, Paul Maigida.

“I wish to inform you that His Excellency, the Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas, has approved the implementation of ₦70,000 new minimum wage for workers in Taraba State with effect from November, 2024,” the statement read. Read more

The Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Professor Abdullahi Usman has admitted to the prevalence of dirty deals in the commission.

Usman whose appointment as NAHCON chairman was confirmed by the Senate on October 10, 2024, admitted this while responding to remark by the Chairman, House of Representatives ad-hoc committee investigating the activities of the commission and FCTA Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Hon. Sada Soli (APC, Katsina).

The House had in July set up an ad-hoc committee to investigate the activities of NAHCON and the FCTA Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, their agents and sub-agents over the conduct of the 2024 Hajj exercise. Read more

Jordaan is accused of using about R1.3 million ($72,372) of South African Football Association (SAFA) funds to hire a PR firm and a private security company for his personal benefit.

Jordaan is president of the association and led the country’s World Cup bid committee which secured the rights to host one of the biggest sporting events in South Africa in 2010. Read more
