The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 44-year-old businessman, Amara Kennedy, for circulating nude photos of his former lovers.

Kennedy was arrested on Friday in the Oshodi area of the state after one of his victims, Kester, agreed to meet him under the pretext of resolving their disagreement.

Our correspondent had reported in a special feature on Sunday that two women, Kester and Temi, met Kennedy separately on different WhatsApp and Facebook chat groups for singles. Read more

Tinubu heading for ECOWAS summit in Guinea-Bissau (DailyTrust)

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja for Guinea-Bissau on Saturday, July 8, to attend the 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The President will be accompanied by some members of the Presidential Policy Advisory Council and other top government officials.

Presidential spokesman, Dele Alake, said in a statement on Friday.

He said the Summit, which takes place on Sunday, July 9, is expected to address memoranda on pressing sub-regional issues. Read more

Alleged N7.5b fraud: Court remands ‘fugitive Ponzi operator’ (Nation)

The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos yesterday remanded a suspected Ponzi scheme operator, Mr. Bamishe Ajetunmobi, wanted by the police since 2021, for an alleged N7.5 billion fraud.

Justice Chukwuejekwu Aneke ordered that Ajetunmobi be kept in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS) pending the determination of charges filed by the police against him.

He adjourned till November 29, for commencement of trial.

The judge’s order followed the defendant’s arraignment on a 12-count charge by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (ForceCID Annex) Alagbon-Ikoyi, Lagos. Read more 

Sanwo-Olu not running one man show in Lagos, says Akosile (Leadership)

The Lagos State government has denied the accusation made by Lagos lawyer, Ebun –Olu Adeguruwa (SAN) that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was running a one man show in the state, spending public funds while the state executive council has not been duly constituted.

Reacting to the accusation, the chief press secretary to the governor, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, said contrary to the claims of the lawyer, his principal is not running a one man show as the wheel of governance is moving progressively in the state.

He said, ‘’Our attention has been drawn to an unsolicited counsel from Mr. Ebun Adegboruwa, alleging that Sanwo-Olu is running a one-man show, simply because he has not constituted his cabinet yet since he resumed office for the second term. Read more

Shettima solicits former senators’ support for Tinubu (Tribune)

Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on all Nigerians regardless of socio-political background to support the actualisation of the policies and programmes of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

3-storey building collapses in Delta State (Channels)

A three-storey building under construction has collapsed in Okotomi area, Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government of Delta State. 

The building which was meant for a hotel caved in around 6 pm Friday. No casualty has been recorded as of the time of filing this report.

This is the latest in the recent building collapses across the country.

Just on Monday,  a five-storey building also under construction collapsed in the Lifecamp area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. Read more 

Excitement as Ibadan gets 10 new kings (Sun)

Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, was agog on Friday as the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun,  Alli Okunmade II, crowned 10 out of 11 members of the Olubadan Advisory Council, who have been elevated from the position of ‘High Chiefs’ to beaded-crown wearing kings.

Governor Seyi Makinde of the state also presented staff of office to the 10 new kings, during the coronation ceremony, which was held at the popular Mapo Hall Arcade, Ibadan. The ceremony was attended by thousands of people from all walks of life, which led to traffic logjam in some parts of Ibadan, including Oja’ba, Orita-Merin, and Beere.

The new kings include the Balogun of Ibadanland,  Oba Owolabi Olakulehin; Otun Balogun, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola; Osi Olubadan, Oba Eddy Oyewole; Osi Balogun, Oba Lateef Gbadamosi Adebimpe; Ashipa Olubadan, Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi; and Ashipa Balogun, Oba Kolawole Adegbola. Read more

Jennifer Garner is slipping back into her past superhero role nearly 20 years later.

The actress will return as Elektra in the upcoming “Deadpool 3”, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Deadpool sequel, which is currently filming in London, now falls under Disney and the Marvel Cinematic Universe and stars Ryan Reynolds and, back as Wolverine, Hugh Jackman.

No charges for security who blocked Britney Spears (BBC)

Britney Spears accidentally hit herself in the face as she was blocked by security while approaching a basketball star, Las Vegas police say.

Victor Wembanyama’s guard, who the pop star alleged struck her during Wednesday’s encounter, will not face charges, police said in a statement.

Spears said she was “backhanded in the face” by the man, calling the incident a “traumatic experience”. Read more

Bill Immerman, Veteran film executive, dies at 85 (THR)

Bill Immerman, the veteran film executive who worked for American International Pictures, Fox, Cannon Pictures, Crusader Entertainment and the Yari Film Group during his long career, has died. He was 85.

Immerman died June 24 of natural causes at his home in Los Angeles, his wife, Ginger Perkins, announced.

Born in New York on Dec. 29, 1937, Immerman received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1959 and his doctor of law degree from Stanford Law School in 1963. Read more

July 7 (Reuters) – The conflict between military factions in Sudan has caused a surge in cases of rape and the abduction of women and girls, some as young as 12, aid agencies and officials said.

Teenage girls are being sexually assaulted and raped by armed combatants in “alarming numbers”, Save the Children said in a statement on Friday, while the United Nations reported a “marked increase” in gender-based violence.

The war that erupted on April 15 pits Sudan’s army against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), who fell out over plans for a political transition towards civilian rule. Fighting has been concentrated in the capital Khartoum and the western region of Darfur. Read more

US to give Ukraine widely banned cluster munitions despite fears (AlJazeera)

The United States has authorised the transfer of cluster munitions to Ukraine against the objections of rights advocates who have been calling for a ban on the weapons, which they say endanger civilians.

The administration of President Joe Biden confirmed the move on Friday, arguing that US-made cluster bombs are safer than the ones Russia is already using in the conflict. The transfer comes as Ukraine pushes on with a counteroffensive against Russian troops in the east of the country.

“We recognise that cluster munitions create a risk of civilian harm from unexploded ordnance,” US national security adviser Jake Sullivan told reporters. Read more

Super Falcons coach, Randy Waldrum, has taken a swipe at the Nigerian Football Federation over the team’s poor preparations ahead of the forthcoming Women’s World Cup billed to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand from July 20 to August 20, Saturday PUNCH reports.

It’s been no love lost between the American gaffer and federation officials recently, with Waldrum seemingly frustrated by his side’s poor preparations for the World Cup, after the NFF cancelled a training camp scheduled for June 20 in Abuja, meaning the 23-woman squad had to travel to host country Australia to kickstart preparations.

Villarreal slaps N25.1b price-tag on Chukwueze (Sun)

Villarreal have revealed their asking price to seven-time European champions AC Milan who are interested in securing  the services of their winger, Samuel Chukwueze.

According to Italian sports daily Corriere dello Sport via Milan News, the Spanish outfit have asked Milan to cough up 30 million euros (N25.1 billion in Nigerian currency) for the services of the Nigeria national teamer.

 Per the report, the Rossoneri have submitted their initial offer which is said to be 25 million euros but that may not be enough to secure the signature of Chukwueze. Read more 

Edwin van der Sar: former goalkeeper stable in intensive care with brain bleed (Guardian)

The former Manchester United and Netherlands goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar is in intensive care because of bleeding around his brain, Ajax have announced.

Van der Sar, 52, won the Premier League four times at United, as well as the Champions League in 2008, which he also lifted with Ajax. After retirement he returned to Ajax, where he took up the role of chief executive in 2016. He resigned in May and transferred his duties to colleagues on 1 June but was asked by the board to formally remain in his position until 1 August to ensure a smooth handover.

“On Friday, Edwin van der Sar had a bleeding around his brain,” Ajax said in a statement on Twitter. “He’s currently in hospital in the intensive care unit and is in a stable condition. Once there is more concrete information, an update will follow. Everyone at Ajax wishes Edwin a speedy recovery. We’re thinking of you.” Read more 

Uruguay midfielder Manuel Ugarte joins PSG on 5-year deal (DailyMail)

Paris Saint-Germain made its third signing of the summer transfer window by adding Sporting Lisbon midfielder Manuel Ugarte to its squad on Friday.

PSG said the Uruguay international signed a five-year contract through June 2028.

PSG has been active on the transfer market recently. In addition to hiring Luis Enrique as its new coach, the French champions have also signed Marco Asensio and Milan Skriniar. Read more

The match did not begin until 8.40pm, an hour later than Andy Murray and Stefanos Tsitsipas got under way on Thursday, but Djokovic finished a 6-3 6-1 7-6 (7-5) victory with 14 minutes to spare before the dreaded curfew to book his place in the fourth round.

Philipsen claims Stage 7 of Tour de France as top trio remain unchanged (RFI)

Jasper Philipsen won the seventh stage of the 2023 Tour de France on Friday following a mass sprint for the finish line in Bordeaux. 

The 25-year-old Belgian completed the 170 kilometres from Mont de Marsan in three hours, 46 minutes and 28 seconds.

It was his third win of the  2023 Tour after triumphs on Stage 4 between Dax and Nagoro on 4 July and Stage 3 between Amorebieta-Etxano and Bayonne the previous day. Read more
