Asharami Energy, a prominent subsidiary of Sahara Group, has, in a significant demonstration of operational excellence, achieved an extraordinary safety milestone by recording 4 million Lost Time Injury (LTI) free man-hours at its OML 148 asset. This remarkable feat, spanning 2,889 days of incident-free operations, showcases the company’s exceptional commitment to workplace safety and operational efficiency.
The achievement comes as a strong start to 2025, marking nearly eight years of continuous operations without any workplace incidents resulting in lost time. This milestone encompasses various high-risk projects, including well drilling operations, infrastructure construction and community development initiatives.
Leste Aihevba, Chief Technical Officer at Asharami Energy, attributes this success to a comprehensive safety culture embedded throughout the organization. “Safety is everyone’s responsibility,” Aihevba emphasized, noting that the milestone represents more than just numbers. “4 million isn’t just a figure; it represents the continuous well-being of our colleagues and our stewardship of the trust our organization and regulators have placed in us.”
The company’s safety journey has been built on multiple pillars, including rigorous training programs, regular audits, and an open-door policy for incident reporting. These initiatives have been particularly impressive given the scope of projects undertaken during this period, including the drilling of Oki wells, construction of multiple flowlines, and installation of two 10,000-barrel crude oil storage tanks.
The impact of this achievement extends beyond the company’s immediate operations. It has positioned Asharami Energy as a preferred partner for regulators, vendors, and community stakeholders in Nigeria’s competitive energy sector. The company has already surpassed its initial milestone, reaching 4.4 million LTI-free man-hours as of the latest count.
Looking ahead, Asharami Energy isn’t resting on its laurels. The company has announced plans for an aggressive growth phase while maintaining its stringent safety standards. “As we celebrate this milestone, we recognize that our work isn’t done,” Aihevba stated, highlighting the company’s commitment to continuous improvement in safety practices.
This achievement is particularly noteworthy in the context of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, where maintaining such high safety standards over an extended period presents significant challenges. The company’s success in managing complex operations while ensuring zero incidents demonstrates the effectiveness of its comprehensive safety protocols and commitment to environmental sustainability.
As Asharami Energy sets its sights on reaching 5 million LTI-free man-hours, this achievement serves as a benchmark for safety excellence in Africa’s energy sector and reinforces the company’s position as a leader in responsible energy production.
