Ataga: Police say more suspects have been arrested (Guardian)
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, on Wednesday, said more suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing of the chief executive officer of Super TV Usifo Ataga.
Odumosu, during a parade of suspects at the police command in Ikeja, said the police have established a case of conspiracy and murder and more suspects have been arrested.
The commissioner did not disclose who the suspects are or how many of them have been arrested. He said the investigation is ongoing in the matter.
21-year- old Chidinma Ojukwu had been arrested in connection to the murder of Ataga. Ojukwu told newsmen in Lagos that she stabbed Ataga to death in self-defence. Read more

3 killed as military men clash with Lagos traders (Punch)
A businessman, identified only as Felix, aka Tiger, and two other yet-to-be-identified traders have been shot dead by military officers during a clash with union members and traders at the Aguiyi Ironsi International Trade Centre, in the Paramo area of Ladipo Market, Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered from witnesses that a military officer and his orderly visited the market on Tuesday to change the spare part he bought from a trader.
On their way out, some union members, who were at the entrance of the market, reportedly demanded payment of N200 from them for gate pass.
It was learnt that the request infuriated the military men and in the process, an argument ensued between them and the union members. Read more
Ladipo market: Our operatives killed nobody, says Air Force (Nation)
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has denied stray bullets from its operatives allegedly killed three persons at Ladipo Market, Lagos on Tuesday afternoon.
It also described as untrue claims that three persons were killed during a clash between military operatives and area boys at the popular Paramo area of Ladipo Market in Mushin.
NAF’s Director of Information and Public Relations (DOPRI), Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet told The Nation the service’s personnel attached to the Operation (OPs) MESA were in the market in response to a distress call.
He said a call was put across by traders on a fight going on between a soldier of the Nigerian Army (NA) and a civilian debtor. Read more
Chidinma’s U-turn on Super TV boss Ataga’s murder an afterthought -Police (Punch)
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has described the new claims made by Chidinma Ojukwu, the suspected killer of the Chief Executive Officer of Super TV, Usifo Ataga, as an “afterthought”.
In a video that went viral on Monday, the undergraduate denied killing the Super TV CEO – a claim that is contrary to her initial confession.
When she was paraded at the police command headquarters on June 24, the suspect had admitted to stabbing the 50-year-old in the neck with a knife after a disagreement.
She also corroborated the claim in an exclusive video interview with The PUNCH.
Odumosu, however, insisted that the police have the suspect on tape during her confession. Read more
Court orders reinstatement of soldier dismissed 14 years ago, asks army to pay his salaries, allowances from 2007 (Tribune)
The National Industrial Court of Nigeria, on Tuesday, nullified the dismissal of a soldier, Lance Corporal Abdul Umar, from the Nigerian Army and ordered his immediate reinstatement.
Joined as co-defendants in the suit are the Armed Forces Council, Chief of Defence Staff and Minister of Defence.
Delivering judgment, Justice Oyebiola Oyewumi held that the dismissal of the soldier was done in excess of the powers conferred on the commanding officer.
The judge further said that there was no evidence to show that the soldier was allowed to make personal or legal representation before he was convicted. Read more
Court remands three men in prison over alleged murder (Vanguard)
Three men, Ismailia Amodu, Ibrahim Mohammed and Amodu Mohammed, who allegedly killed a man, were Tuesday remanded in prison custody by a Lagos High Court sitting at Igbosere.
The defendants whose residential addresses were not given are facing a count charge of murder, preferred against them, by the Lagos State Government.
The State’s prosecuting counsel Bukola Okeowo, told the court that the trio, committed the offence sometime in January 2019.
She said that the incident took place at about 7 am, at Tin Can Island Port, in Apapa area of Lagos. Read more
Police nab traffic robbery suspects in Oshodi (Guardian)
Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS), yesterday, arrested two robbery suspects in possession of a locally made pistol and charms, while out to perpetrate crimes across their target points.
The RRS team, on patrol around Oshodi metropolis.
The two suspects, namely Lekan Abdulateef (M), aged 23 and Tajudeen Sanusi (M), aged 24 are both indigenes of Kwara State and residents of Ajegunle and Orile areas of Lagos respectively.
Abdulateef, who was in possession of the pistol at the time of arrest, confessed to buying the gun at N100,000 from the vendor. Read more
EFCC breaks into Lagos hotel, arrests 30 over fraud (Punch)
No fewer than 30 suspects have been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission during a raid on Parktonian Hotel in the Lekki area of Lagos State.
During the raid on Tuesday, the operatives were alleged to have gained entry into the occupants’ rooms by seizing the master cards from the management of the hotel at gunpoint.
When the operatives gained entry into the rooms, it was learnt that some of the occupants were naked under the duvet as the operatives interrogated the occupants.
One of the victims, while lamenting the invasion, told the Peoples Gazette, “I was naked, and I had to beg them (for me) to put something on. I am actually hypertensive, but I put myself together because I am not a criminal in any way.” Read more
Sanwo-Olu’s convoy catches Lagos traffic robbers in operation (Punch)
The Lagos State Governor Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s convoy on Monday arrested a gang of suspected criminals, who specialised in harassing motorists and road users in traffic.
This was made known in a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Gbenga Akosile.
The statement reads, ”The gang of suspected criminals met their waterloo Monday while attempting to unleash terror on a motorist around Ojota in-bound Alausa.
“Help, however, came for the motorist as Governor Sanwo-Olu’s convoy approached the scene to rescue him from the three machete-wielding criminals who were at the time, trying to drag him out of his vehicle. Read more
Task force impounds 104 motorcycles in Lagos (Punch)
The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit has impounded 104 motorcycles for plying the Second Rainbow, Cele and Okota routes in the state and for allegedly endangering the lives of road users.
A statement by the task force’s Head of Public Affairs Unit, Femi Moliki, said the agency’s Chairman, CSP Shola Jejeloye, led the operation, adding that the seizure was to halt the flagrant abuse of traffic laws by motorcyclists in Lagos.
The statement read in part, “The government is concerned about the recklessness of motorcyclists on restricted routes, and therefore becomes necessary to help the motorcyclists by saving their lives and that of other road users. The government will not fold its arms and allow motorcyclists to create chaos for other road users on prohibited routes.“It has become crucial for government to prevent an increase in the trend of crime perpetrated by motorcyclists in the metropolis, particularly on prohibited routes.” Read more
Trial of Danish man accused of killing Nigerian wife, kid stalled (Guardian)
The trial of a Danish, Peter Neilsen, accused of killing his Nigerian wife and their daughter, was on Monday stalled due to the defendant’s delay in filing an application.
Nielsen, 54, is standing trial before a Lagos High Court, Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) on two counts bordering on murder.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defendant was accused of killing his singer wife, Zainab and their three-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Petra on April 5, 2018.
At the resumed hearing, the defendant’s Counsel, Mr Olasupo Shasore, SAN, filed an application requesting for some exhibits, to enable him conduct an examination. Read more
Man docked over alleged kidnap of toddler (Vanguard)
A man Victor Udoh, who allegedly kidnapped a child from the parent custody was yesterday arraigned before an Igbosere High Court, sitting at Tafa Balewa Square (TBS), annexe.
The defendant whose residential address was not given is facing a count charge of adoption, preferred against him by the Lagos State government.
The prosecuting counsel, Bukola Okeowo, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence, on September 18, 2015.

Driver, apprentice docked for allegedly stealing 15 BRT tyres (Guardian)
A 62- year old driver, Habeeb Haruwa, and his apprentice, Nuru Aliu, 26, on Monday, appeared in an Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s Court, for allegedly stealing 15 new BRT tyres worth N750,000.
The defendants, whose house addresses were not given, are charged with conspiracy and theft.
The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Benson Emuerhi, told the court that the defendants and some persons, now at large committed the offence sometime in June, at Alausa, Ikeja.
Emuerhi alleged that the defendants also stole a car battery worth N35,000 property of the complainant, Laralek Ultimate Nigeria Limited. Read more
Man, 42, faces trial over alleged N2m wallpaper fraud (Vanguard)
A 36-year-old man, Kenneth Titus, on Monday appeared before a Surulere Chief Magistrates Court, Lagos for allegedly stealing 3D panel wallpaper worth N2 million.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is being tried on a three-count charge of obtaining by false pretence, conspiracy and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Anothia Osayande, told the court that Titus and others still at large allegedly committed the offences between Nov. 10, 2020, and June 15, 2021, at No. 115 Ojuelegba Road, Lagos.
Osayande alleged that Titus and others obtained the 3D panel wallpaper from the complainant, Mr Chijioke Ofomodogu by sending forged bank alerts to Ofomodogu to the tune of N2 million. Read more
Lagos OPC man stabs member to death over cultism (Punch)
A member of the New Era Oodua People’s Congress, Tope Lucky, has gone into hiding after allegedly killing another member of the group, Wasiu Ogunnaike, in the Epe area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Lucky and some OPC members trailed Ogunnaike to a location in Epe, where the suspect allegedly used a knife to stab the 42-year-old during a disagreement.
Our correspondent learnt that the disagreement bordered on the deceased’s membership of the Eiye Confraternity cult.
Upon the discovery, members of the OPC, including Lucky, were said to have sacked Ogunnaike from their group.
A source told PUNCH Metro that they also instructed the victim to return his membership clothes. Read more
NDLEA intercepts N6.5bn heroin at Lagos airport, declares baron wanted (Nation)
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a consignment of 26.15 kilogrammes of heroin with a street value of over N6.5billion at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja Lagos.
It’s Director, Media and Advocacy, Mr Femi Babafemi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.
Babafemi said that the seizure was made at the Skyway Aviation Handling Company Plc (SAHCO) shed of the Lagos airport.
According to him, the illicit drug had arrived in Lagos in 25 parcels from South Africa through an Air Peace Airline flight on 30th June 2021. Read more
Mixed reactions trail Lagos Bill barring parade of suspects (Guardian)
Mixed reactions have continued to trail the recent passage of an amended version of the Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State by the House of Assembly barring parade of suspected criminals before the media by the police.
Section 9 (A) of the bill passed on Monday at a sitting presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Wasiu Eshilokun-Sanni states: “As from the commencement of this law, the police shall refrain from parading any suspect before the media.”
The proposed law further states: “A person who is arrested shall be given reasonable facilities for obtaining legal advice, bail or making arrangements for defense or release.
“A suspect should also be accorded humane treatment, with the right to dignity of the person; not subjected to any form of torture, cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment; be brought before the court as prescribed by this law or any other written law; or be released conditionally or unconditionally.” Read more
Court remands driver over alleged vandalisation of railway track slippers (Leadership)
Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday remanded a cab driver, Richard Adeniji in the custody of Nigerians Correctional Services for allegedly vandalising railway track slippers, worth N10 million.
Justice Awogboro ordered that Adeniji be kept behind bars after he pleaded not guilty to a four-count charge brought against him by the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF).
The defendant was accused of felony, willful damage and attempt to steal by the federal government.
The offence, according to the prosecutor, Mrs. Kehinde Bode-Ayeni, are punishable under sections 3 (6), 383, 507, of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Cap M17, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and punishable under section 1(10), and 390 (a) of the same Act. of the same Act. Read more
Lagos politician killed during APC rally (Punch)
Gunmen have shot a politician, identified simply as Ekpo, to death, in the Agboju area of Lagos State.
The PUNCH gathered that Ekpo, who until his death was also a member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, was at a rally of the All Progressives Congress when the gunmen invaded the rally on Thursday and allegedly shot him dead.
It was learnt that residents, passersby, traders, customers, and other members involved in the rally around Agboju scampered for safety when Ekpo was attacked.
Jimoh Buhari, the spokesman for the Chairman, NURTW, Musiliu Akinsanya, confirmed the circumstances surrounding Ekpo’s death, adding, “He was protecting a fellow politician, Wale Yusuf, from harassment when the gunmen shot him dead.” Read more
CGC Team A strike force impounds 4 containers of wood worth N373.5 million in Lagos (Vanguard)
The Controller General of Customs Strike Force, Team A, on Wednesday disclosed that it intercepted four container loads of unprocessed woods valued at N373.5 million.
The unprocessed woods were about to be shipped out of the country to Asia when it was intercepted by the men of the strike force.
The Federal Government had in 2019 outlawed the export of unprocessed woods and allied products to protect the nation’s forest.
It also revealed that it has shifted its attention to identifying dangerous cargos right inside the Seaports before they are cleared.
The Coordinator, CGC Strike Force Team A, Deputy Comptroller of Customs, Ahmadu Shuaibu, while showcasing the items in Ikorodu, said the team in a renewed vigour seized four containers loaded with unprocessed woods. Read more
Lagos driver arraigned over alleged theft of N1.9m goods (Punch)
A 36-year-old driver, Franklin Uyi, charged with stealing his company’s goods valued at N1.9 million was on Thursday arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The defendant, who resides in Ikeja was arraigned before MagistrateA.S. Odusanya, and charged with moreling.
Uyi, however, denied committing the offence and was admitted to a bail of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Odusanya said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government. Read more
Robbers kill 2 Lagos Okada riders, steal motorcycles (Punch)
The families of two motorcyclists, Sheriff Sulaiman and Sanni Abubakar, have called on the Lagos State Police Command to track down the robbers who allegedly shot them dead around the Abule Ijesha and Yaba College of Technology Bus Stop areas of the state.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the victims were together at the Abule Ijesha Junction waiting for passengers when the assailants shot Sulaiman in the head.
Sulaiman’s relative, Abu Tairu, said the father of one died on the spot, adding that his corpse was transported to his hometown in Katsina, where he was buried.
He said, “I was at my shop when people came to inform me that armed robbers shot Sulaiman to death at Abule Ijesha Bus Stop. They shot him in the head and stole his motorcycle around 6am. When I got there, I saw his corpse on the road and blood was gushing out of his body. Read more
Commuters groan as auto crash compounds Lagos-Ibadan gridlock (Guardian)
A few seconds of madness by a truck driver on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, yesterday, cost motorists and commuters several hours of agony.
The driver of a truck fully loaded with granite, was heading towards Lagos, but suddenly made a detour near Kara and an unsuspecting tanker rammed into it.
An eyewitness, Emeka Mordi, said the intensity of the crash forced the engine of the tanker to drop and the tanker crossed the entire road, leading to a day of agony for motorists and commuters.
Mordi, who works on the Island, said he escaped by a whisker. Read more
Estate agent in court for alleged N15m fraud (Vanguard)
A 58-year-old Estate agent, Ahmed Abdullahi, on Wednesday appeared before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Tinubu, Lagos, for allegedly defrauding Instant Housing and Rental Apartment company of N15 million.
Abdullahi, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing.
