The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Sunday lambasted President Muhammadu Buhari for banning fifty (50) prominent Nigerians from travelling outside the country. Police confirm one dead in attack on Tambuwal’s motorcade (Nation)

The Police Command in Sokoto State has confirmed the death of one person as a result of stray bullets fired when hoodlums allegedly attacked Gov. Aminu Tambuwal’s motorcade in Sokoto on Saturday. The command’s spokesperson, DSP Cordelia Nwawe, told newsmen that one other person who was injured during the incident had been hospitalized. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the PDP had organised a reception rally to welcome Tambuwal after his failed attempt to secure the 2019 presidential ticket of the party. Read more

NYSC member celebrating end of service drowns in Bauchi dam (Punch)

A 26-year-old National Youth Service Corps member, Joseph Adebayo, on Thursday, drowned in Gubi Dam, Bauchi State, while on a picnic with other NYSC members to celebrate the end of his service year. Two other corps members, who had accompanied the victim in a canoe, were said to have narrowly escaped death when the vessel capsized and some fishermen rescued them. Read more

No fewer than 18 persons were killed while two others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a road crash involving a Hilux pickup truck in the Yautare, Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State. The death toll has risen to 20 people on Sunday following two suspected suicide bombers that struck in the southern Somali city of Baidoa on Saturday, a local hospital official said. “We received 20 dead people and about 40 others injured from the twin blasts of yesterday,” Abdifatah Hashi, the General Manager of Baidoa city hospital, told reporters on Sunday. Anambra man defiles neighbor’s 12-year old daughter (Nation)

A middle aged man at the weekend allegedly defiled a 12-year old girl in Obosi road, Isiowulu, Anambra State. The suspect, identified as Chukwudi Nweze, was said to have had carnal knowledge of the girl in his room. The Nation gathered that the the victim, who lives in the same compound with the suspect, was lured into his room around 8.25pm. Police nab fake lawyer in Enugu (Punch)

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a man, Festus Ozonwanji, for allegedly claiming to be a lawyer in court, the News Agency of Nigeria has reported.
