Back to Base: Goethe hosts film screening and panel discussion

Goethe-Institut Nigeria is set to host a film screening and panel discussion on the back of the Back to Base project geared towards motivating young Nigerian students to use their own creativity and arouse their curiosity about the arts. Date is February 2, 2020, at the Nigerian National Museum, Onikan, Lagos by 4 pm.

According to the statement by a Goethe spokesperson, in 2019, Goethe-Institut Nigeria in collaboration with Rele Art Foundation organised a series of workshops titled Back to Base. “The idea was to send young artists, who attended the Rele Art Foundation’s programme ‘Young Contemporaries’, back to their former schools in order to facilitate two-day art workshops for the students,” said the statement.

The project, which is aimed at introducing young students to professional art practices and motivating them to explore their own creativity, held workshops in five cities facilitated by Dandelion Egho (Ekpoma), Osaru Obaseki (Port Harcourt), Sejiro Avoseh (Badagry), Marcellina Akpojotor (Lagos) and Fidelis Joseph (Yola).

Film maker Ema Edosio Deelen and her crew filmed the whole project, which will be screened in her presence and two of the artists, Osaru Obaseki and Marcellina Akpojotor. In an ensuing panel discussion, they will talk about the project and their personal experiences.
