Balogun out of Brighton’s EPL opener (Punch)

Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun will miss Brighton Hove Albion’s Premier League opener against Watford, Sports Extra reports.

The former Mainz defender did not train with the Brighton squad on Tuesday ahead of the Saturday’s clash as he is yet to re-join the Seagulls after being handed an extended break by the club following his participation with Nigeria at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The 31-year-old defender, who made 10 appearances scoring once for Brighton in his debut season, faces another stiff competition dislodging the first choice defence pair of Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy.

Balogun’s future at the club is up in the air following his limited opportunities last season and the addition to the Potter’s group of central defender Matt Clarke from Portsmouth this season may further hamper his chances. Read more
