It would be recalled that the premium beer had successfully enabled the passion of Football fans in its fan parks in some city in Nigeria namely Jos, Calabar, the friendly match between Atletico Madrid and the Super Eagles B Team in Uyo and just earlier in the week, the beer brand treated fans in Port Harcourt to a wonderful experience as the Super Eagles played out a 1-1 draw with Democratic Republic of Congo.
Now Star has taken the train to the Eastern Heartland Imo, Owerri where football fans experienced the premium viewing of the match as the Super Eagles squared up against the Three Lions of England at the home of Football Wembley. Both teams have a history of football between them from the goalless draw match between both countries at the 2002 Mundial in Korea/Japan to keenly contested friendly matches.countries. This added an interesting twist to the game which makes it more than a friendly match for both countries.
The match started on a positive note for the Super Eagles and their fans both at Wembley stadium and at Star Fan Park Owerri as players and fans sang the national anthem melodiously and with great passion and patriotism. However the Eagles were unlucky to concede after a smart save from Eagles goalkeeper resulted in a corner kick and the Three Lions converted the resulting set piece. The Eagles however picked themselves up and pressed for an equalizer but again they were unlucky to concede yet another goal and the first half ended 2-0 in favor of the home team.
After a series of changes in the second 45, the Eagles started to ask questions of the English defense and it soon paid off as Alex Iwobi teamed up with Eagles striker Odion Ighalo whose snapshot came off the post and Iwobi slotted in the rebound in an astonishing manner pulling one back for the Nigerian national team much to the delight of the Owerri fans at the Star fan park as the ball went into the net. The match ended in a 2-1 defeat in favour of the Three Lions.
Star lager, a premium beer brewed with the finest of ingredients and the official beer partner of the NFF gives Owerri fans a footballing experience that they have never experienced before just like the brand has done in other cities in the past couple of weeks.
