Bisi Silva dies at 57 after battle with cancer

The Founder and Artistic Director of the Centre for Contemporary Art, Lagos (CCA Lagos), Olabisi Silva, is dead. She was 57.

The sad event occurred on Tuesday in Lagos after a protracted battle with cancer.

Iheanyi Onwuegbucha, who is the Centre’s Associate Curator made the announcement in a statement.

“With a deep sense of loss, we regret to announce the passing of our Founder and Artistic Director of Centre for Contemporary Art, Lagos, Olabisi Silva who passed away on Tuesday 12 February 2019,” the statement said.

Silva, a renowned curator respected at home and abroad, will be solely missed having contributed immensely to the growth of contemporary Nigerian art at home and the world over.
