Bode George: Soldier and politician

If you thought that the recent gale defections hitting the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) were a new thing you have to think again. Former National Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, who should know, said in a recent interview that it stems from the fact that all the political parties in the country have no ideological differences.

The former military general however said that the basic tenets are to secure the lives and property of the people, provide employment, good education, good health, while making sure to enhance agricultural and infrastructural development of the nation.

George, who counts his time in prison, as an opportunity to see the other side of midnight and learn about life, said he has since forgiven and reconciled with those who were behind his ordeal.

Born Olabode Ibiyinka George on November 21, 1945, he was the ninth governor of Ondo State, who was in office from July 1988 – September 1990. From Lagos State, the former Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), has always been a member of the PDP. An alumnus of the University of Lagos, he earned a B.Sc and MBA, and attained the rank of commodore in the Nigerian navy before retiring to civilian life and politics. He is married to the delectable Roli, who has stood by him through his trials.

On December 13, 2013, the Supreme Court headed by judge John Afolabi Fabiyi, discharged the conviction of Bode George, stating that the EFCC had no evidence that George intended to commit fraud at the NPA, and the charges of “contract splitting” was unknown to law.

Bet you didn’t know that George has reconciled with former governor of Lagos State and national leader of the APC, Bola Tinubu.
