Botswana decriminalises gay sex saying ‘sexual orientation is not a fashion statement’ (Metro)

Botswana’s High Court has decriminalised homosexuality in a landmark ruling.

The court ruled that laws which impose up to seven years in prison for same-sex relationships were unconstitutional.

Judge Michael Elburu set aside the ‘provisions of a Victorian era’ and ordered the laws be amended.

The judges unanimously agreed that a person’s right to privacy included the right to choose a life partner and ‘fundamental private choices, including those with regards to sexual conduct’. Read more
